Traditional Sivananda Yoga Classes
Experience a balanced practice of asanas, pranayama, and deep relaxation in our traditional Sivananda open classes.
A student practices Ardha Matsyendrasana (Half Spinal Twist) during a group class. This posture energizes the spine, stimulates the liver and kidneys, and improves digestion.
An instructor provides gentle assistance in a seated twist, helping the student find more space and length in her spine while ensuring the posture is performed correctly and safely.
Students practice Trikonasana (Triangle Pose) in a group setting. This standing posture strengthens the legs, stretches the hips and spine, and improves overall balance and stability.
Health is wealth. Our daily asana classes build strength, flexibility, and balance using just your breath, your body, and your mat. Here, a student is in Janu Sirsasana (Head-to-Knee Pose).
This video shows a student moving through a sequence of advanced postures, including Dhanurasana (Bow Pose) and Mayurasana (Peacock Pose), reflecting the peace and happiness found on the spiritual path.
About The Sivananda Experience: Asana, Pranayama, Relaxation
Our sessions are not gym workouts, but a 90-minute traditional Hatha sequence. You start with breathing exercises (Pranayama), move through 12 basic postures, and end with deep relaxation (Savasana). The practice is steady and meditative, designed to help you find focus rather than just burning calories.
Unlike modern studio flows that prioritize speed, our Sivananda classes follow a fixed sequence that remains consistent worldwide. We believe in the power of this repetition. By practicing the same 12 basic asanas, you learn to refine your alignment and deepen your reach over time.
Classes begin with Savasana, followed by 20 to 25 minutes of Pranayama, including Kapalabhati and Anuloma Viloma. This focus on breath is our foundation. We then move into Surya Namaskar and the core postures like Headstand, Shoulderstand, and Triangle Pose. Each session concludes with 10 to 15 minutes of deep guided relaxation.
Whether you are in our Kailash Colony studio or joining our online sessions, the routine stays the same. We prioritize quality of breath and mental stillness over physical intensity. This is why we are a preferred choice for those looking for discipline and mental peace rather than a high-cardio environment.
