How we make our guides

People ask us the same things every week. What should a newborn shoot cost? Can the clubhouse stop us bringing our own decorator? Will plants survive on a balcony that gets two hours of sun? Usually we know, because we've asked the photographers, decorators and gardeners we work with. We were typing the same answers on WhatsApp every day, so we started writing them down properly, for anyone to read.

Where the answers come from

  1. 1. What people ask us

People in Bengaluru sent us more than 2,000 requests between April and September 2026 for something they needed done: a newborn shoot, a balcony garden, a Pilates teacher, the office Diwali. They tell us their budget, their date and what's worrying them. For each guide we read every one of those requests, and the questions that matter most, and whose answers aren't obvious, become the guide.

  2. 2. The people who do the work

Before anyone joins mytribe, we talk to them at length about how they work. We ask what they charge, and then what a package leaves out, how much notice they need, what happens to your advance if the date moves, and what goes wrong and how they handle it. You won't find most of that on their website.

  3. 3. Everyone else

We also read what other businesses publish: their prices, and the rules that apply, from your society's to the city's. So a guide shows every way to get it done, including doing it yourself and going to someone we don't work with.

How the newborn guide answered “is it safe?”

Parents want to know if a posed newborn shoot is safe. There's no safety qualification for newborn photographers in India, so there was no certificate to point to.

What the photographers told us about their packages showed what really matters: who's holding the baby. At ₹6,000 you get an hour, and nobody is named to hold the baby. At ₹22,000 you get three to four hours and a person whose only job is the baby.

So the guide tells you to ask one thing before you book: who else will be holding the baby?

Where every number comes from

  • Every price says whose it is: the provider's own, another business's published price, or our own estimate, and we say when it's ours.
  • The people whose prices we print are named, with a link to their work.
  • Each guide shows when it was last updated.
  • Nobody pays to be in a guide.

Spotted something wrong?

Prices move, and sometimes we get a detail wrong. If something in a guide is out of date, tell us on WhatsApp and we'll fix it.

What we do for you

  • We listen

Tell us what you have in mind, in your own words. We ask until we've got it right.

  • We know the market

Who's good, what it really costs and what tends to go wrong. It's what these guides are made of.

  • We bring the right few

Checked people who fit exactly what you asked for, with their prices.

  • We see it through

We do the chasing and put what's included in writing. If something isn't going to plan, a person here sorts it out.

Rather not do it yourself?

Tell us what you need, where and roughly when.
