About Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)
Why We Do What We Do
At The Combat Lab, we keep it simple: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu should be for everyone. Doesn’t matter if you’re a working parent, a total newbie, or chasing medals. I started this space so more people could actually try BJJ for beginners without feeling out of place or lost.
Who Fits In Here
No one type of person walks through our doors. You’ll see students, athletes, mothers, folks who’ve never even watched a fight. If you’re nervous about starting, bas aa jao (just come over) - nerves get left at the door. We hit the fundamentals, so you won’t feel lost. Pros and amateurs train side by side; that’s how everyone levels up.
What Training Looks Like
Here, it’s all about consistency and intensity. Warm-ups, then technical drilling, then you actually get to test things out with live rolling sessions (joga bonito, as we say). We run daily gi and no-gi grappling classes. Expect trial and error, a lot of sweat, and some solid laughs along the way.
Not Just a Gym, But a Fam
This isn’t one of those places where you check in and vanish. Our BJJ community culture is tight - people hang back for open mats, share tips, and actually help each other get better. Regular open mats and guest seminars keep things fresh.
Who You’ll Learn From
Our coaching crew is a mixed bag of killers and nerds. Shaun covers basics, Ashwin and Raajus bring their own flavor, and we bring in big names for seminars. So you’ll always have someone to learn from, whether it’s self-defense jiu-jitsu techniques or competition tricks.
The Only Rule
Don’t obsess over belts. Focus on showing up, putting in work, and being good to your training partners. That’s how you improve. Everything else follows.
