The Iyengar Method: Precision and Alignment

In the Iyengar system, alignment is everything. If your body is misaligned, your *Pran Shakti* spills like water from a broken beaker. Let us fix the leaks.

This student may look thin, but according to me, his *pran shakti* is finished. His bent elbows and forward shoulders block the flow of energy. This is not just about looks; it affects the heart and lungs. I use props like rods and ropes to correct this alignment and restore the flow of life force.

Is a slim person always healthy? Not by yogic standards. This student's hands are crooked and his back is popping out. Nothing is going into the body. Two people are required to hold him in a pose he thinks he can do. This is because the organs are not placed properly in the "cupboard of the body," and circulation is at 25%. We must change this.

The Indian concept of health is different. This student has a big body, but her life force is continuous, there is no "traffic jam." If she gets injured, she will heal faster because a solid supply of oxygen, which is *pran shakti*, can reach the area. According to Western science, the thinner man is fitter. You decide what is true health.

If you practice yoga without awareness of your alignment, you are wasting your *pran shakti*. There must be a quest within you to improve. Here, we are working on opening the armpit chest. If this area is closed, you cannot have an elevated state of mind. It takes three people to bring this student's spine straight. This is the reality we must face.

Why should you extend the spine? Because your life force flows through it. Extending the spine gives a clear channel for your *pran shakti* to flow through the nerves to every part of the body. A compressed spine limits your potential.

Yoga is an art, a science, and a philosophy. In a single Tadasana, I can see the aggression in a student's thigh and know it will take a toll on her pelvis. I can see these imbalances and predict future issues. This is the scientific and structured system of Iyengar yoga I invite you to experience.

Many people practice yoga for years but do not progress. Why? Because yoga is a structured science. If you follow my introductory course, which is based on the highly structured Iyengar system, I give you my word that you will break through your barriers and see fantastic results.

We live in an era of gadgets that cause stiffness in the neck, shoulders, and back. This is not just stiffness; it can lead to major spinal issues. In Iyengar yoga, we are very precise. We align your spine, create space, and give you a new lease on life.

When I met Mr. Iyengar at 26, I was so scared and stiff I could not raise my hands properly. That fear made me what I am today. I teach you to check yourself, to see your limitations, and then I give you the precise tools to work on yourself for a future with no pain and a lot of confidence.

Why Iyengar Yoga? It is a complete system involving the sequencing of asanas, improvisation, timing, innovation of props, and above all, precision and alignment. This is what makes it so effective for every age and body type.

About The Iyengar Method: Precision & Alignment

Think of your body as a system of pipes. If you are misaligned, your Pran Shakti—your life force—simply leaks out, leaving you exhausted and prone to injury. It does not matter if you look thin or fit by Western standards; if your internal alignment is flawed, your organs are not positioned correctly in the "cupboard of the body," and your circulation drops. In my classes, we use props not to support your weakness, but to reveal your potential, forcing you to realign so your energy stays contained and vibrant.

In the Iyengar system, we do not perform random, mindless stretches. We follow a rigorous structure. As a trained microbiologist, I look at the body as a complex machine that needs precise calibration. When your spine is compressed, your nervous system is stressed. When your armpit is closed, your state of mind becomes stagnant. The alignment of the shoulder joints, the extension of the spine—these are not aesthetic choices. They are the path to healing. If you come to me with a chronic injury, I do not simply help you mask it; we work to correct the alignment that caused it in the first place.

Whether you are in our Delhi studio at Mandi House or joining via Zoom, my correction is precise. You will learn the logic of every asana, utilizing ropes, teak bricks, and belts exactly as my Guruji B.K.S. Iyengar taught. This is not for those who want a light workout to pass the time. This is for those who are ready to understand the architecture of their own health and take responsibility for it. You will find that when you move with intention and intelligence, you don't just feel better—you feel like you have come home to yourself.
