About Kids Yoga: Playful & Mindful Movement
Most parents come to me just wanting their children to get some physical activity, but they are often surprised when they start practicing asanas at home without being asked. My classes are not about sitting still or forcing perfect form; they are about helping kids discover that movement can be joyful, whether we are playing balloon games for coordination or using animal mimicry to explore new shapes.
Building Foundation Through Play
Yoga for children requires a different approach than adult practice. Instead of static holding of poses, I use gamification and storytelling to keep kids engaged. We explore balance using animal mimicry and coordination through interactive games, which makes the practice feel like play rather than a lesson. This creates a positive association with movement that can last a lifetime.
Supporting Development & Focus
I tailor my curriculum to the specific developmental needs of each age group, from toddlers to teens:
- Physical Growth & Posture: Many school-going children deal with strain from heavy bags and long hours at desks. My sessions include targeted stretches to correct posture, aid motor skill coordination, and promote healthy physical development.
- Exam Anxiety & Memory: For older children, I incorporate 'super brain yoga' and breathwork techniques. These are designed to help with concentration, improve memory retention, and provide tools to manage stress during exam seasons.
- Inclusive Environment: My studio in Santacruz West is a safe, non-judgmental space. I provide experience-based support for neurodiverse children, including those with ADHD or Autism, ensuring everyone feels comfortable participating at their own pace.
What to Expect
Sessions are held on weekends to fit into your busy schedule. We use props like blocks and mats to assist with alignment, and occasionally we take our practice outdoors to the park to connect with nature. Whether your child is 2 or 18, the focus remains on finding their own strength and building a healthy, balanced relationship with their body.
