Shatkarma: The Traditional Yogic Path to Purity
Internal purification is the foundation of a real yoga practice. Join us in Rishikesh to learn the ancient six cleansing techniques under expert supervision.
A student practices Sutra Neti (rubber neti), a powerful cleansing technique. This practice helps to clear the nasal passages and can improve respiratory health. It must be learned from an experienced teacher.
I am instructing a group of students in Sutra Neti. We ensure that everyone learns these advanced techniques with proper guidance and safety.
I am guiding a student through Sutra Neti. This practice is not just about physical cleansing; it also helps to stimulate the Ajna chakra and improve focus.
Another student learns Sutra Neti under my close supervision. We take great care in teaching these powerful Shatkarma practices.
I demonstrate Sutra Neti to a group of students. This internal purification practice is an important part of our comprehensive teacher training curriculum.
This video shows students practicing Jala Neti, another of the six Shatkarmas. This nasal cleansing with saline water is excellent for sinus health and mental clarity.
About Shatkarma: The Yogic Path to Purity
Practicing Shatkarma, like Sutra Neti or Jala Neti, is not something you do from a video. You need to learn the correct angle, water temperature, and pressure. We guide you through every step until you can do it comfortably, ensuring your nasal passages and body are prepared for the deeper work of pranayama and meditation.
Shatkarma, or the six cleansing techniques, is not just about physical hygiene. In our teacher training programs, we teach these as a vital preparation for deeper yogic states. When you clear the physical blockages in your nasal passages, throat, and stomach, you create the space for prana (life force) to flow freely.
We cover the primary practices:
- Jala Neti: Nasal irrigation using warm saline water. This is essential for sinus health and mental clarity.
- Sutra Neti: A more advanced cleansing using a rubber catheter to clear deeper nasal pathways and stimulate the senses.
- Dhauti, Nauli, Basti, and Kapalabhati: These cleanse the digestive and respiratory systems.
At our Rishikesh school, we emphasize safety above all. You will never perform these techniques alone until we are confident in your technique. We integrate these practices directly into our 200H and 300H Yoga Teacher Training (YTTC) curriculums. You will learn the anatomy of why these work and how to guide your own future students safely. Swaas jeevan ka doosra naam hai (Breath is the second name of life), and keeping that breath channel clear is the first step on the path.
