Join us on a musical journey across India. We use storytelling, rhythms, and hands-on instrument play to help children discover the heartbeat of our country's rich folk traditions.

Our co-founder Kamakshi interacts with young participants at the "Folk Music of India" workshop. She is using traditional Rajasthani puppets to make the storytelling and musical experience more visual and engaging for the children.

An interactive moment where our co-founder engages directly with the children, getting them to participate in the folk music narrative. Our workshops are always a two-way conversation.

Here we are, leading a "Folk Music of India" workshop at the prestigious NMACC Bachpan event. It was a joy to guide so many young music lovers through the rhythms and melodies of our country's diverse folk traditions, with children dancing and singing along.

On stage at NMACC Bachpan, we are joined by our team of musicians to present a rich tapestry of Indian folk music. The children are seated on mats, ready for an immersive session of sound and culture.

About Exploring India's Folk Music

Our folk workshops ditch the desks and textbooks for a more natural approach. We use storytelling, traditional puppets, and hands-on interaction with instruments like manjiras and djembes to bring the sounds of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and beyond to life. Your child learns by doing, feeling the beat of each region through play rather than rote memorization.

A Musical Trip Across India

Music is the most engaging way for children to connect with history and culture. Instead of a standard lecture, we take children on an imaginative train ride. Every session is a multi-sensory exploration where we uncover the sounds that have defined different Indian states for centuries.

Why Folk Music for Kids?

Folk music is raw, rhythmic, and incredibly fun. It is the perfect entry point for young learners because it is rooted in stories and daily life. Through these sessions, children develop:

  • Rhythmic Awareness: From the earthy beats of Rajasthan to the energetic pulses of Maharashtra, kids learn to identify and replicate complex patterns.
  • Cultural Connection: They hear the melodies that connect them to their roots, making the abstract concept of culture feel personal and alive.
  • Confidence through Play: Because we focus on enjoyment rather than perfection, children feel safe to experiment, sing, and express themselves without the pressure of a traditional music exam.

What Happens in a Session?

Every workshop is led by our team with live singing, storytelling, and instrument demonstrations. We introduce children to the manjira, djembe, and other folk instruments. They sit on mats, get close to the musicians, and participate directly. We often use puppets and props to make the narratives of regional folklore visual and interactive. Whether it is a seasonal monsoon theme or a specific regional study, our goal is for your child to walk away with a love for the sound, not just the technical theory.

Hey, we are Kamakshi and Vishala. We started The Sound Space because we believe music is a language every child can speak. Our folk workshops are not lectures. They are musical trips across India where your kids discover rhythm, stories, and the roots of our culture through play.
