Join us for a musical storytelling adventure where Indian classical instruments meet playful tales, creating a space for you and your child to explore sound together.

A look back at our last Jungle Jugalbandi workshop. A young child gets a hands-on experience with the tabla, feeling the rhythm with his parent. We believe in letting children touch and explore instruments to connect with the music.

We took our Jungle Jugalbandi workshop to Jio World Drive. Here you can see us leading the crowd in our theme song, bringing the musical story to life for an audience of families and children.

"Sa Re Ga Ma..." A teacher uses the Jungle Jugalbandi book to introduce the basics of sargam to a group of captivated children. Our storytelling method makes learning the fundamentals of Indian classical music feel like a magical adventure.

A young student discovers the rhythm of the tabla during our Jungle Jugalbandi workshop. These hands-on moments are crucial for developing a child's interest and understanding of percussion and taal.

A parent helps their child gently touch the strings of a sitar. Our workshops are designed to be a shared experience, where families can discover the beauty of Indian instruments together.

A toddler gets his first introduction to the bansuri (Indian flute). We bring in real artists and instruments to give children an authentic and memorable sensory experience.

A glimpse from our "Journey Through the Forest" workshop at NMACC Bachpan. Children and parents are gathered, listening to the story and music, ready to embark on a folk-beat-filled adventure.

Our co-founder Vishala Khurana leads a musical storytelling session of Jungle Jugalbandi at a literary festival. The children are completely engaged, using scarves and their imagination to become part of the story.

A lively moment from our Jungle Jugalbandi workshop at Jio World Drive. We love getting the children involved, clapping and singing along as the story unfolds.

Here we are on stage at the Festival of Play in Hyderabad, using the Jungle Jugalbandi book to guide the children through a musical narrative, accompanied by a live tabla player.

About Jungle Jugalbandi: A Musical Adventure

In these sessions, you aren't just observing. Parents and toddlers sit in a circle, handling real instruments like mini-tablas or manjira, making it a hands-on experience rather than a performance. We keep our groups small so every child gets the chance to explore the sounds of our forest story at their own pace.

At The Sound Space, we believe music isn't about training prodigies; it is about finding a friend in art. Jungle Jugalbandi is one of our favorite ways to introduce this. We use a musical book as our roadmap, journeying through a forest where children meet animals and learn about Indian sounds through storytelling.

We break down the complexities of Hindustani music into play. When we talk about sargam, we are singing along with the cuckoo. When we learn about taal or rhythm, we are tapping on djembes and xylophones.

What to Expect:

  • Active Bonding: Whether your child is 6 months or 4 years old, these sessions are designed for you to join in. You don't need a musical background.
  • Hands-on Exploration: Kids get to touch and play real, scaled-down versions of traditional instruments like the bansuri, sitar, and tabla.
  • Safe Spaces: We conduct these workshops in family-friendly studios across Mumbai, such as the Seventh Sense Movement Centre in Girgaon, Midcity Studios in Worli, and various locations in Bandra and Colaba. We ensure soft flooring and a screen-free environment.

Our goal is to create a sensory experience where children feel free to move, express, and soak in the sounds without the pressure of performing. It is noisy, it is colorful, and it is entirely focused on the joy of discovery.

We are Kamakshi and Vishala, sisters who believe music is a language of friendship, not just notes. We started The Sound Space to ensure every child—and parent—finds a safe, joyful space to explore sound, whether you are holding a sitar or just tapping a shaker.
