Musical Storytelling Workshops for Kids
We don't just read books. We sing, dance, and act them out. From rhythm games to puppets, we turn every story into an interactive adventure for your child.
The "Zum Gali Gali" coordinated movement song is an all-time favorite. Holding hands and moving together in a circle helps children learn cooperation and rhythm in a really fun, physical way.
The room was filled with love and music for our Valentine's Day session. We started with sweet songs and ended with some happy dancing, because movement is a key part of every class.
Our little monkeys at Ubuntu Montessori are acting out a musical book with Miss Swati. Thumping their chests like gorillas helps them physically connect with the characters and remember the story.
Meet Jenny Jenkins! Using puppets and props in my songs helps bring the characters to life. This call-and-response song is great for teaching colors and encouraging participation.
Jenny Jenkins came to visit our music class again. The children absolutely love when she comes, as it adds a playful and interactive element to our singing sessions with Miss Priyanka.
There’s a special kind of magic when a story sings its way into little hearts. Song stories like "Nicketty Nacketty Noo" help children connect sound with story and movement with meaning.
Taking the fun outdoors! Here we are at the Festival on the Steps in Bandra for a super-fun Music and Movement workshop. My sessions can be adapted for any space, indoors or out.
About Musical Storytelling in Action
I don't just read stories; I turn them into a full-on adventure. In my sessions, we use simple props like scarves and puppets to encourage movement, ensuring children are not just listening but actively participating. Whether we are in a studio or a library, the goal is the same: to get kids singing, moving, and connecting with the narrative.
Why Singing Stories Works
When a child listens to a story, they are passive. When they sing a story, they become active participants. By adding melody and movement, we help children retain vocabulary and understand narrative structures naturally. It is about bridging the gap between listening and doing.
What We Do
- Movement & Drama: We do not sit still. If the story features a gorilla, we thump our chests. If it is about a Pashmina shawl, we act out the weaving process. This physical engagement helps children process the story with their whole bodies.
- Rhythm & Instruments: We use shakers, triangles, and drums to keep the beat. This builds hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness while reinforcing the musicality of the text.
- Hands-on Crafts: To cement the memory, we follow up with activities like paper-mâché or weaving, tying the physical creation back to the narrative we just sang.
