About Past Workshops & Events
Every workshop here is designed as a sensory journey. We swap rigid theory for hands-on play with instruments like the tabla and manjira, allowing children to connect with rhythm through movement and storytelling. Whether it is our popular 'Jungle Jugalbandi' series or our regional folk music explorations, each session is crafted to keep your child actively engaged rather than just observing.
Our workshops are built on the philosophy that Indian classical music should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age or experience. By integrating storytelling with musical education, we help children form a friendship with art.
Why Our Workshops Are Different
- Screen-Free Engagement: We believe in the power of physical presence. All our sessions rely on live instrumentation, props, and movement rather than digital screens.
- Small Batch Sizes: We cap our sessions at 10-12 children to ensure individual attention, allowing every participant to get comfortable with the instruments.
- Parent-Child Bonding: For children aged 6 months to 4 years, our sessions are designed for you to join in. It is not about the child learning alone; it is about both of you exploring sounds together.
What To Expect
Most of our events, like 'Jungle Jugalbandi' or our 'Musical Train Ride' across India, follow a theme. We use these themes to deconstruct complex musical concepts like 'taal' (beats) and 'sur' (notes). A child might learn to identify the steady beat of a tabla while listening to a story about a forest, absorbing rhythmic structure without even realizing it. We conduct these sessions in safe, sound-treated spaces across Mumbai, Pune, and Hyderabad, ensuring a comfortable environment for your little one to make noise, dance, and discover their own voice.
The Sound Space
We are Kamakshi and Vishala. We started The Sound Space because we believe music is a language of friendship, not just performance. As a mother and a fellow music lover, we design every workshop to be a gentle space where you and your child can bond over rhythm and raags.
