Ashtanga Primary Series Yoga Classes in HSR Layout
Master the foundational sequence of the Ashtanga system. My classes focus on Yoga Chikitsa to realign, detoxify, and build a sustainable personal practice.
A demonstration of the foundational Surya Namaskar, or Sun Salutation, showing the importance of mindful movement and accepting the body's rhythm each day.
This video shows Prasarita Padottanasana, a wide-legged forward bend that teaches grounding and stability, reminding us that commitment is key, even when motivation wavers.
Here I move through Garbha Pindasana and Kukkutasana, postures that challenge balance and require deep internal focus, helping to clear subconscious patterns or 'vasanas'.
A sequence of seated forward bends from the Primary Series, including Paschimottanasana, which teaches patience and the gradual process of finding peace.
This clip shows the Marichyasana series, which involves deep twists and forward bends to detoxify the internal organs and cultivate a sense of self-worth.
Moving into Setu Bandhasana, or Bridge Pose, which builds core and back strength. It teaches us to overcome what we once thought was impossible.

The finishing sequence continues with Urdhva Padmasana and Matsyasana, poses that require core control and teach us to keep moving forward through challenges.
Setting intentions for the new year with a practice that includes Ardha Baddha Padma Paschimottanasana, a half-bound lotus forward bend that encourages self-discovery.
Demonstrating Trikonasana (Triangle Pose), a standing posture that teaches alignment and the idea that we are here to be exceptional, not just accepted.
About The Ashtanga Primary Series: Yoga Chikitsa
In this traditional Mysore-style practice, you do not simply follow a group rhythm. Instead, you move through the sequence at your own pace while I provide individual, hands-on adjustments. This ensures your alignment is specific to your body's current limitations, allowing you to develop a self-sufficient practice that feels less like an exercise class and more like a moving meditation.
The Primary Series, known as Yoga Chikitsa or yoga therapy, is the starting point for every student. Its purpose is simple: to realign the spine, detoxify the internal organs, and build the stamina required for a lifetime of movement.
The Mysore Method
When you join my shala in HSR Layout, you are not learning a new choreography every day. You are learning the sequence step-by-step. You memorize the poses, and I help you refine them. This creates independence. By the time you leave the mat, you own the practice, not the instructor. This methodology is why Ashtanga is often called a 'moving meditation.'
What to Expect
- Individual Progress: You are not limited by the slowest or fastest person in the room. You progress only when your body is ready, which is safer and more effective.
- Traditional Roots: I teach exactly as I learned from my Guru, Sharath Jois. There are no shortcuts or watered-down versions.
- Sunday Led Classes: While the weekday sessions are self-paced, we gather twice a month on Sundays for a led class. This is where we sync our breath to the traditional vinyasa count, ensuring you understand the rhythm of the series.
- Holistic Discipline: We do not just focus on asanas. Expect to discuss the philosophy, the importance of consistent habits, and how to apply the discipline you find on the mat to your life in Bangalore.
Whether you have back pain, are dealing with insomnia, or are simply looking for a rigorous, authentic practice, this series provides the structure you need. The mat is where we begin, but the work happens inside.
