The Urban Workplace, Reimagined: MSR Tower Bengaluru

In MSR Tower, we moved away from the standard glass-box office. Instead, we focused on green breaks—full-floor recreation zones that act as lungs for the building. This design choice forces daily movement and interaction, ensuring that employees are never more than a floor away from nature, even in a dense urban setting.

Our approach to the MSR Tower in Bangalore was to treat the workplace as a vertical campus rather than a monolithic office block. We recognized that Bangalore’s garden city identity often gets lost in high-density commercial developments. By integrating cascading green terraces and shared recreation zones throughout the tower, we brought the landscape into the daily experience of the office.

Technically, we focused on passive cooling and modular floor plates. The design incorporates a podium level that hosts an amphitheatre and food court, creating a space where the boundaries between work and pause disappear. This is the essence of biophilic design. It is not just about placing plants in a lobby; it is about creating a structural rhythm that allows natural light and airflow to penetrate deep into the interior.

We used curved glass forms and shaded courts to minimize heat gain while maximizing visual connection with the city. The result is an office environment that responds to the local climate.
