Design for Campuses for Innovation & Well-being
Workplaces are not playgrounds. We design campuses that prioritize focus, nature, and human connection, crafting environments where innovation happens naturally.
A view of a modern tech campus where glass towers rise from a forest-inspired landscape. The large water feature in the foreground not only adds serenity but also creates a natural boundary between the public and private zones of this mixed-use development.
At the Amara Raja Net-Positive campus, we designed this curved walkway over a naturalized water body. It connects different parts of the campus, encouraging movement and interaction while immersing employees in a serene, natural environment dedicated to energy research.
This view showcases the integration of art and nature at the Amara Raja campus. The colorful, large-scale artwork on the underside of the building is visible from the walkway, adding a layer of creative inspiration to the daily journey of the researchers and staff.
The curving walkways at the Amara Raja campus are designed to create a fluid journey through the landscape. This perspective highlights the C Lab building and the seamless connection between the research facilities, green spaces, and water features, fostering a campus for cutting-edge science.
For this 140-meter office tower in Hyderabad, we focused on the ground plane. We believe this is where a building engages with the city, so we designed it as a vibrant urban space with retail, gardens, and plazas, serving as a valuable amenity for both tenants and the community.
This is a detail of a speculative office building in Visakhapatnam. The deep concrete grid provides solar shading while creating opportunities for integrated planters and green pockets, bringing natural light and vegetation into the modern workspace.
The interior of the ePositive campus features a grand atrium with a light wood staircase that doubles as tiered seating. This space is designed to foster collaboration and relaxation, with floor-to-ceiling windows and lush greenery creating a serene and inspiring environment.
About this collection
We do not believe in flattening a site just to fit a rigid grid. For our campus projects, the ground plane is where the real work happens, connecting indoor workflows with outdoor public realms through retail, plazas, and naturalized water bodies. Whether it is our work at the Dhruva campus preserving Deccan Plateau rock formations or the Volvo Tech Lab’s industrial efficiency, we ensure the built form respects the existing ecology while providing the infrastructure teams need to collaborate effectively.
Architecture with Intent
We approach campus design as an exercise in logic. When we look at a site, we are not looking for a blank slate; we are looking for the story already embedded in the land. At the Dhruva space technology campus in Hyderabad, we refused to raze the ancient Deccan Plateau rock formations. Instead, we designed the buildings to hover above the terrain, creating a dialogue between modern science and geological history.
The Anatomy of a Workplace
A successful campus must foster both deep individual focus and spontaneous collaboration. We treat these as separate but related problems:
- The Ground Plane: This is the interface between the building and the city. In our Hyderabad office tower project, we transformed the ground level into an urban amenity, integrating retail, green plazas, and food zones to ensure the building contributes to the city rather than just occupying space.
- Flow and Nature: At the Amara Raja Net-Positive campus, we used curved, naturalized water bodies and forest-inspired landscaping to create a buffer between public and private zones. This isn't just decoration; it is about thermal comfort and mental well-being.
- Industrial Authenticity: At the Volvo Vehicle Tech Lab, we utilized pre-engineered structures and thermally efficient panels to create a workspace that is both low-impact and highly functional. We believe industrial design should be honest, exposing its structure rather than hiding it behind cosmetic layers.
Our Process
We do not offer 'styles.' We offer functional solutions derived from site analysis, Vastu compliance, and an understanding of human movement. Whether we are designing a corporate headquarters or an R&D lab, our goal is the same: to strip away the unnecessary and leave behind a space that works, endures, and inspires.
Studio Chintala
We are Studio Chintala, a design practice that believes architecture should be honest, functional, and deeply rooted in its local context. We do not chase trends; we build quiet, timeless structures that help people focus, innovate, and feel connected to their environment.
