A selection of our work that defines our design language, where architecture serves the community, embraces nature, and tells a story.

This film explores the Dr. Vishnuvardhan Memorial in Mysore, a project close to my heart. It explains my belief that public buildings are living canvases, shaped by the people who use them. You will see how we designed not just a memorial, but a thriving community hub where architecture and nature blend, inspired by the work of Geoffrey Bawa.

In Amsterdam, my installation "Echoes of the Deep" floats on a canal, reimagining an ancient Indian step-well as a place for quiet reflection. This view, with a person pausing on the bench, captures the essence of creating moments of stillness within the busy fabric of a city.

This aerial view shows the masterplan for the MCA International Clubhouse in Pune. My goal was to create a holistic campus experience, integrating a cricket stadium, practice pitches, and club facilities into the natural landscape, demonstrating how large-scale planning can foster both sport and community.

This render for Kharkiv’s Freedom Square in Ukraine shows the project's core idea: transforming a vast urban area into a space for people. By creating tiered public seating and integrating cherry blossoms, the design encourages community gathering and informal activities, turning a monumental square into a human-scaled place.

For the MSR Tower in Bangalore, I designed breakout spaces that serve as green oases within a vertical campus. This render shows a serene water feature and seating area, a space for pause and informal interaction that brings Bangalore's garden-city spirit into the modern workplace.

An aerial perspective of the completed Dr. Vishnuvardhan Memorial in Mysore. This image showcases the project's central idea: a structure that merges with the landscape, featuring a sunken water court and a green roof that becomes part of the earth itself.

I was honored to receive the Monocle Design Award for my work. This recognition affirms my commitment to creating architecture that is not only beautiful and practical but also improves the quality of life for the communities it serves.

Movement is central to the design of the MCA Sports Block. This view shows the dedicated running track alongside the shaded walkway, illustrating how I design spaces that actively encourage wellness and connection, with the main stadium always visible in the background.

About Featured

We focus on what we call the in-between space: those pockets of lobbies, courtyards, and pathways that do not always appear on a blueprint but define how a place actually feels. At the Dr. Vishnuvardhan Memorial, we used a jali screen to carve out these communal areas, ensuring visitors have a quiet place to reflect that feels separate yet connected to the main flow.

At M9 Design Studio, our design process centers on the concept of a living canvas. We treat architecture as a framework that evolves, allowing nature and user activity to layer meaning onto the structure over time. This approach is evident in our work at the MSR Tower in Bangalore, where we replaced the typical monolithic office block with a vertical campus. By introducing green breaks and shared recreational zones, we shifted the focus from density to occupant well-being.

Our masterplanning work follows a similar logic. For the MCA International Clubhouse in Pune, we organized the sports facilities and community zones around the central cricket stadium, using seasonal landscapes and green corridors to unify the campus. This method, which we call slow architecture, prioritizes passive cooling and long-term environmental integration over quick visual impact.

Whether working on high-density plazas or private residences, we select materials like brick, lime plaster, and Kota stone not just for their aesthetic, but for how they weather and age within the local climate. We want our buildings to exist as background to the human stories unfolding within them, ensuring the community feels ownership of the space. Every project is an opportunity to explore how the built environment can act as a catalyst for social interaction, moving away from static design toward a model of spatial storytelling.

I am Nischal Abhaykumar. At M9 Design Studio, I believe architecture should be quiet, persistent, and deeply rooted in its context. Whether we are designing a vertical tower or a public memorial, our goal remains the same: to create spaces that let nature and community take the lead.
