Featured Kathak Performances and Class Highlights
A look into my world of Kathak—where centuries-old Jaipur Gharana traditions meet the joy of modern expression. From stage performances to our studio rhythm, here is the heart of what I do.
This moment on stage captures the essence of a performance. It's where sadhana (practice) transforms into an offering, a story told through every gesture and expression, rooted in the traditions of the Jaipur Gharana.
Understanding rhythm is key to Kathak. In this clip, I break down the concept of Layakari and Padhant, showing you exactly how we approach complex rhythmic patterns in my classes to make them accessible and clear for every student.
The joy of seeing my students perform together is immeasurable. This is a glimpse of our third-year students showcasing their grasp of basic compositions, demonstrating the beautiful synchronization and confidence that comes with dedicated practice.
Ready to take your first step? My online beginners course is designed for anyone, regardless of age or prior dance experience. This video gives you all the details on how you can join our small, interactive batches and start your own Kathak journey with us.
There is a unique power you feel when you dance, a connection between your body and the rhythm. This is a moment of pure energy from a practice session, showcasing the dynamic chakkars (spins) that are a hallmark of Kathak.
How do you teach storytelling to children? By making it a part of their world. Here, my youngest students explore Abhinaya (expressions) with devotion and joy, learning to convey stories in a way that is both fun and deeply rooted in Kathak tradition.
My mother and Guru is my biggest inspiration. Here she is, seamlessly blending the timeless tradition of Kathak with modern technology, a testament to how this art form evolves while keeping its soul intact. This is the legacy I strive to carry forward.
This is the sheer joy of being on stage, a moment where the dancer, the music, and the audience become one. It's this feeling of connection and happiness that I hope to share with every student.
About Featured
Whether you are stepping onto the stage or entering our studio for your first class, my focus remains on the 'how' of movement. In my classes, we don't just mimic steps; we break down the 'layakari' (rhythmic math) and 'tatkaar' (footwork) to ensure you understand the mechanics behind every spin. It is this balance of discipline and play that helps my students find their own rhythm, whether they join us in Vile Parle or online from anywhere in the world.
Kathak is often misunderstood as just 'steps' or 'spins', but the true essence lies in the 'sadhana' (dedication) and the mathematics of the rhythm. As a practitioner of the Jaipur Gharana, my approach focuses on building a foundation that respects this lineage. When you look at the visuals in this cluster, you aren't just seeing performances or practice clips; you are seeing the 'layakari' (rhythmic play) that we dissect in every class.
Whether you are attending my studio sessions in Vile Parle or joining from your living room via our interactive online batches, the method remains the same: we focus on body alignment, the precision of 'tatkaar' (footwork), and the storytelling aspect of 'abhinaya'. My students, ranging from six to sixty, often start with hesitation, but they find clarity through the repetition of 'bols' and the disciplined practice of 'riyaaz'.
If you are curious about starting, do not worry about a background in dance. The first few months are designed to ground you in the basics—footwork, hand gestures, and spins—at a pace that allows you to absorb the rhythm. For those already in the journey, our workshops explore deeper compositions and the intricate 'padhant' (recitation) that brings the dance to life. The goal is simple: to make this classical art form a part of your daily expression, not just a weekend hobby.

Kathak is my language, a legacy my mother and Guru, Smt. Radhika Sathe, passed down to me. I teach to share that same sheer joy I felt at sixteen when I first truly connected with this art form, making every 'bol' and 'chakkar' accessible to anyone willing to learn.
