About Kathak Dance Classes
I see Kathak as more than just dance steps - it's a journey that connects body, mind, and soul. My training comes from the Jaipur Gharana, passed down by my mother and Guru, and I try to keep that traditional vibe alive, even when teaching online.
Who Can Join?
- No dance background? Bilkul chinta mat karo (don’t worry at all). My beginner classes start from scratch.
- All ages are welcome. I’ve taught kids as young as six and adults who are 90-plus.
- Special batches for kids, where we make even tough things like Abhinaya (expressions) fun and simple.
What You’ll Learn in the First Four Months
- Tatkaar (footwork) - the real heartbeat of Kathak
- Chakkars (spins) - Jaipur Gharana style
- Hastak (hand gestures) and how to use them for storytelling
- Layakari & Padhant - understanding rhythm and recitation
- Traditional compositions to bring it all together
How I Teach
- Small online batches (max 10) for personal attention
- Self-paced video lessons for those who want flexibility
- All live classes are recorded for your Riyaz (practice)
- Practice tracks and feedback on your videos

My Story
I’m that Nari in a saree—beach, playground, wherever—always dancing. Kathak’s in my blood, thanks to my mom, Guru Radhika Sathe, who’s been living this art for 40+ years. At 16, I was told, ‘be excellent or don’t go on stage.’ So I danced everywhere, even online, found my own groove. Now, I carry forward our Kathak Nritya Mandir, grateful for every step, and for the new little one joining our journey.
My Work
What I Offer - Kathak classes online/offline in Mumbai, Layakari workshops, choreography, performance collabs, kids and adults.
How I Teach - Kathak’s not just steps. It’s body, mind, senses. I teach the flow, not just copying, and we go deep.
Who Can Join - Anyone with the will. Six or sixty, we make space for your journey, even if you’re juggling life.
Class Experience - Warmups, revision, lots of repetition, then something new. We use videos, but focus on you feeling the art first.
For the Serious Ones - Intensives on Layakari workshops, Bandishes in Teentaal, and intricate footwork patterns. Dive deep if you want.
