About Sculpture & Figurative Art

In our sculpture sessions, we move away from the wheel to focus on the human form and storytelling. We partner with master artists like Jayan from Terracrafts, who brings over three decades of mastery, to guide you through specific hand-building techniques that turn simple terracotta into expressive figures, busts, or characters.

The Art of Slow Shaping

Sculpting is different from wheel throwing. It is less about centrifugal force and more about patience, observation, and the intimate relationship between your hands and the clay. In this cluster, you will explore how to build volume, structure, and emotion into your work without the rush of a spinning motor.

What You Will Learn

  • Foundational Hand-Building: Learn coiling, pinching, and slab techniques to build 3D structures from scratch.
  • Anatomy & Expression: Whether you are creating a realistic human bust or a stylized character like a Totoro, we guide you on how to capture personality and likeness.
  • Terracotta Techniques: We work primarily with natural terracotta, a forgiving and earthy medium that feels grounded and responsive to your touch.

Who Is This For?

You do not need prior pottery experience to start sculpting. These workshops are designed for anyone who wants to slow down and create something that feels personal. We see students arrive with just a lump of mud and leave with a character, a deity, or a portrait that holds a story.

Studio Atmosphere

Our studio on Sarjapur Road is a sanctuary for this kind of work. We keep the groups small to ensure you get the guidance needed to master those intricate details, like hair texture or facial expressions. Come as you are, prepared to get your hands messy and your mind clear.
