At Kānike, we believe art is a gift. Whether you are curious about the potter’s wheel or want to try your hand at anatomical sculpting, our cozy studio in Cooke Town is the perfect space to get messy and create something real with your own hands.

The quintessential moment of creation on the potter's wheel. This image captures the feeling of centering clay, the first step in transforming a simple lump of earth into a beautiful, functional vessel.

Using a sponge to smooth the inside of a freshly thrown bowl on the wheel. This step is crucial for refining the shape and ensuring a clean finish, a technique we teach in our pottery classes.

Preparing a block of clay by cutting it with a wire tool. This process, known as wedging, removes air bubbles and ensures the clay has a consistent texture, making it ready for sculpting or throwing.

About From Earth to Art: Pottery & Clay Sculpting

In our pottery sessions, we focus on the tactile joy of the craft rather than perfection. You will spend your time working with raw clay, learning to wedge, throw, or sculpt under the guidance of practicing artists who keep the atmosphere casual—lemon chai breaks are always part of the plan.

Your Hands, Our Clay

Working with clay is one of the most grounding experiences you can have. At Kānike, we strip away the noise and focus on the basics of hand-building and wheel-throwing. We host intimate batches of 6-8 people to ensure every participant gets individual attention. You do not need to be a trained artist to join, you just need to be curious about making things.

What We Explore

Our pottery and sculpting workshops are designed for those who want to disconnect from screens and reconnect with their hands. From the initial wedging of the clay to the final smoothing of a vessel, you learn the actual process of transformation. We occasionally host specialized sessions, like our popular ear sculpting workshops, where we dive into anatomical detail. It is a fun, unique challenge that teaches you to observe closely and translate what you see into form.

The Kānike Vibe

We are based in Cooke Town, and our studio is built to be a community space. You will find no corporate rush here. Instead, expect a relaxed environment where we take time for lemon chai breaks, share stories, and learn from one another. We provide all the tools—aprons, sculpting wires, and high-quality clay—so you can just walk in, get messy, and enjoy the process. Whether you are looking to build a functional bowl or just want to spend an afternoon sculpting, there is a place for you at our table.
