About Beyond the Pose: Breathwork & Cleansing
These practices require patience, not performance. Whether we are practicing Jalneti for sinus relief or Trataka for concentration, I always remind my students, 'Thoda time lagega' (it will take time). These techniques are about clearing the channels so your breath can finally flow without obstruction.
In our Santacruz studio, we treat breathwork and cleansing as essential parts of your daily maintenance, much like brushing your teeth. We don't just jump into high-intensity flow; we start by regulating the nervous system.
Core Practices
- Pranayama: We focus on Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) and Bhramari (bee breath) to balance your energy. This is not about forceful breathing but finding a rhythm that calms the mind.
- Cleansing Kriyas: We teach Jalneti to clear nasal passages, which is particularly effective for those dealing with Mumbai's pollution or seasonal allergies. We guide you through the process step-by-step so you feel comfortable and safe.
- Trataka: Our candle-gazing sessions are designed to help you switch off from screen time. It is a simple, powerful way to improve focus and reduce mental clutter.
These practices are included in our regular schedule because I believe they are what truly make yoga a lifestyle rather than just a 60-minute workout. If you are joining us from nearby areas like Khar or Bandra, know that our classes are structured to give you the space to slow down and really practice, not just watch.
Body Temple Yoga Studio
I am Abhishek Khurana. I started Body Temple six years ago to create a space that feels like a home, not a sterile studio. For me, these cleansing practices are about returning to yourself amidst the rush of the city. I am here to guide you through them, one breath at a time.
