Traditional Yogic Meditation and Breath Control
Meditation is more than passive relaxation. At our Koramangala studio, we guide you through traditional concentration practices like Trāṭaka and systematic Pranayama to steady the mind and sharpen focus.
A group of our students engaged in Trāṭaka, or steady gazing at a candle flame. This ancient Shatkarma (yogic cleansing) technique is incredibly effective for improving concentration, cleansing the eyes, and bringing the mind to a state of stillness.
Students in our Teacher Training course practice various Pranayama techniques. By consciously regulating the breath, we can directly influence our mental and emotional states, reducing stress and increasing vitality.
A look inside one of our regular Hatha yoga classes, where students move through various asanas before settling into Savasana (corpse pose). This final relaxation is a crucial meditative practice for integrating the benefits of the physical work.
This shows a specialized yoga workshop we conducted for dancers. The session begins and ends with seated meditation, demonstrating how these practices can be applied to enhance focus, body awareness, and performance in any discipline.
About The Art of Yogic Meditation
We teach meditation as a discipline, not a passive activity. Our focus here is on Trāṭaka (candle gazing) and Pranayama—tools used for centuries to train the mind and regulate internal energy. You will need to bring patience and commitment to these sessions, as these practices are designed to challenge your attention rather than just help you drift off.
If you are looking for quick-fix relaxation or trendy meditation, you will likely find our approach demanding. We treat the yogic path as a rigorous journey, akin to the lessons found in the Panchatantra—a text we often discuss for its wisdom on governance, friendship, and internal discipline.
The Practice of Concentration
Our meditation sessions are structured around specific techniques:
- Trāṭaka (Concentrated Gazing): This is a Shatkarma practice where we fix our gaze on a candle flame. It is not merely about resting the eyes; it is a systematic method to build unwavering focus and cleanse the mind of clutter.
- Pranayama (Breath Regulation): We do not just 'breathe'; we regulate the prana or life force. Through specific retention and rhythm, we influence the nervous system, which helps manage stress and brings the body into a state of balance.
We do not offer magic shortcuts. Whether you are a beginner or have a regular practice, our classes at our 3rd Block, Koramangala studio require you to show up, do the work, and engage with the theory behind the poses. We blend ancient philosophy with modern life, ensuring that what you learn on the mat translates into the discipline you need off the mat. Expect to engage with breathing protocols that are physically and mentally active, intended to shift your state of mind through conscious effort.
