Handblock Printing & Natural Dyeing Workshops
Step into our heritage garden studio in Sadashivnagar. We open our doors to share the slow, rhythmic art of block printing and natural dyeing, using the very same techniques we have refined since 1977.
We invite you to join us for a workshop day filled with craft, music, and community. Learn ancient techniques like block printing and natural dyeing, explore our heritage textiles, and even participate in a community mural.

About Join Us: Workshops & Events
When you join us for a workshop, you are not sitting through a lecture. You are in our actual printing studio, using the same 1960s teak blocks and natural dye pots our team uses every day. Come prepared to get your hands stained and messy, as we believe the best way to understand the craft is to feel the fabric and the resistance of the block firsthand.
A Day in the Studio
Our workshops are an extension of how we live and work at Tharangini. We believe that craft is a practice best understood through immersion, so we invite you to our Sadashivnagar garden space to slow down and focus on the details.
We don't do mass-production here. In our sessions, you will:
- Explore our Archives: Get hands-on with our private collection of vintage teak blocks. These are the same motifs we have used for decades, including intricate floral patterns and architectural designs.
- Work with Nature: Learn the chemistry behind our natural dyes. We explain how we extract color from plant resins, indigo, and pomegranate peels, and you will see how we maintain our sustainability standards.
- Master the Technique: Learn the precise pressure and rhythm required for handblock printing. It is a meditative process, and our master artisans will be right there to guide your hand.
Why Join Us?
Whether you are a textile enthusiast, a student of design, or simply looking to spend a day away from screens, our workshops are about connecting with your hands. We keep our groups small and intimate. This ensures that you have the space to ask questions, learn the 'why' behind the craft, and leave with a piece you created yourself.
We often host these in collaboration with other artists and local community groups, so every workshop day has a unique energy—sometimes focused on embroidery, sometimes on mural art, but always anchored in our deep respect for heritage textiles. Come ready to learn, chat, and participate in a legacy that has been running for over 45 years.
Tharangini Studio
I am Padmini, and we are the team at Tharangini. My mother started this studio in 1977 right here in our home, and today it is a living space where we pass these skills on. We love having new people walk through our garden doors to learn the art of the block.
