The Art of the Block: Process & Products
We don't do mass production. See how we turn organic cotton and traditional wooden blocks into one-of-a-kind art, celebrating every little smudge and wonky line along the way.
(Video) To hold a block is to hold centuries of tradition in your hands. Each press continues a story, connecting the past and present in a single, mindful motion.
(Video) This was my favorite pattern of 2021. Watch the process of printing a three-color design on a saree, working in reverse from the background layer to the final outline.
(Video) For me, 'handmade' is not a label, it's a tradition. This video shows the authentic, messy, and beautiful process of preparing ink and printing fabric by hand.
(Video) Every color I use is mixed with intention, often just moments before it meets the fabric. Here you can see the process of creating a custom hue from scratch.
(Video) I also create custom printed items for clients, like this unique shirt. We used a detailed Eiffel Tower block to create a stylish, personalized piece of wearable art.
(Video) Did you know you can block print on newspaper? It's a creative and sustainable way to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind gift wrap for any occasion.
(Video) This is a glimpse into the heritage of my craft. From pouring the ink to the final press, every step is part of a tradition that I am passionate about preserving.
About this collection
We don't use heavy machinery here. Every print you see comes from hand-carved teak wood blocks pressed onto organic cotton or recycled paper. Because we mix our own pigments by hand, the hue is custom-blended right before the press, which means the exact shade you see won't ever be replicated again.
At Amoha Prints, we believe that 'handmade' is not a marketing label but a tradition. When you look at our work, you will notice variations in ink density and alignment. We embrace these nuances because they prove a human hand applied the block, not a machine.
Our process starts with the ink. We mix our own skin-safe pigments to get the right consistency before applying it to the tray. We then take the teak wood block—some are vintage, some are custom-carved—and apply even pressure to the fabric. This requires patience and rhythm. It is a slow, tactile experience that we teach in our studio sessions.
Whether we are working on a custom textile project, a corporate gift bag order, or a simple tote bag during a public workshop, our focus remains on sustainability. We use organic cotton, recycled newspaper for wrapping, and child-safe colours. We invite you to try this at our studio in Domlur or join one of our online courses if you want to understand how to handle the pressure, alignment, and ink-mixing that goes into this 2,000-year-old craft.
