Handcrafted Sarees in Bangalore
Every saree here tells a story. From vintage teak block prints on silk chiffon to handloom cottons, our pieces are slowly crafted by hand in our Bangalore studio, using organic dyes and heritage motifs passed down through generations.

About Our Handcrafted Sarees
When you pick a saree from our collection, you are choosing a piece that is slow-made. Our silk chiffon sarees, for instance, often require over 80 hours of manual printing to achieve their layered depth. Because we use organic dyes and hand-carved vintage blocks, each piece features subtle, natural variations that machine prints simply cannot replicate. These are meant to be cherished heirlooms, not fast fashion.
The Art of the Print
Our process is rooted in the 1970s, back when my mother Lakshmi first started printing by the lake. We still use the same disciplined, 14-step discharge or pigment printing methods. Depending on the complexity of the design, such as our floral architectural patterns, we may layer up to 20 different carved teak blocks on a single saree to build intricate depth and texture.
Material and Sustainability
We believe that true luxury lies in the touch and longevity of the fabric. Our sarees come in several distinct textures:
- Silk Chiffon & Crepe: These are occasion-wear pieces that offer a delicate, fluid drape, perfect for events where you want elegance without weight.
- Handloom Cotton & Kota Doria: We use 80 to 100 count cotton for a crisp, breathable finish that softens beautifully with every wash. They are ideal for Bangalore's climate and everyday comfort.
Everything we print uses GOTS-certified organic dyes derived from sources like indigo, madder root, and pomegranate. We avoid chemicals entirely, which means the vibrant colors you see are achieved through patience and chemical-free reactions.
Our Heritage Archive
Part of what makes our sarees unique is the source of our patterns. We maintain one of South India's largest private archives of teak blocks. When you wear a Tharangini saree, you are often wearing a motif revived from the 1960s or 70s, redesigned to fit a modern aesthetic. It is a bit of jugaad (resourceful innovation)—blending old-school temple motifs with contemporary geometric lines to create something that feels timeless.
Tharangini Studio
We are Tharangini, a second-generation, women-led studio based in a 70-year-old family home. My mother Lakshmi started this journey by the lake, and today, our artisan family continues to keep that spirit alive with every block-print we lay.
