About Artisanal Apparel & Textiles
We’ve been handcrafting textiles in Bangalore since 1977, carrying forward what my mother Lakshmi started. Our studio sits in a 70-year-old family home, and honestly, every piece we make still feels personal, like passing on a bit of our own story.
How We Work
- For us, slow and sustainable isn’t a marketing line - it’s just daily life. We’re big on organic processes, using plant-based natural dyes (fresh palash, indigo, butterfly pea) and working with master artisans, some who’ve been with us over 30 years.
- Proud moment: we train and work with specially-abled folks through the Asha Foundation. They bring a whole level of skill and heart.
- We hold a Gold Sustainability Standard, so yeah, we’re always thinking about the environment and our community, not just the end product.
Our Pieces
- Hand-block printed sarees in silk, handloom cotton, and chiffon. We also love giving old sarees a second life by overprinting - something we’ve done since the 70s.
- Breezy organic cotton apparel – dresses, shirts, patchwork summer pieces. Stuff you’ll actually want to wear again and again.
- Natural fabric stoles and scarves, each hand-printed and one-of-a-kind.
The Craft & The Quirk
- Our big pride is our massive teak block archive (some blocks from the 60s). The hand-block process is slow, sometimes tricky, but the details are always worth it.
- We mix old-school South Indian motifs like the Gandabherunda with modern florals and geometrics. Bit of jugaad, bit of tradition – that’s us.

My Story
Hey, we’re Tharangini Studio. Our story started in 1977 with Lakshmi aunty, my mom, who built this place by the lake in Bangalore. It’s home, really. Our artisans, some here since day one, now work with their kids. It’s all about passing down skills, keeping it real. We’re woman-owned, everyone’s welcome, and nature’s our neighbor—turtles, flowers, the lot. That vibe runs through everything we do.
