Our Architectural Process & Philosophy
Architecture is an act of problem solving, not decoration. We design with intent, stripping away the unnecessary to create spaces that are honest, functional, and deeply rooted in logic.
What are our inspirations? In this clip, Diwakar Chintala explains that inspiration is all around us: in the aspirations of our clients, in the logic of nature, in the fearlessness of babies, and in the dreams of our young team.
How would we describe our design philosophy? In this video, Diwakar Chintala explains that we define design as problem solving. We seek the simplest and most honest solutions, and we believe that beauty is merely a byproduct of that process.
How has our journey been so far? Diwakar Chintala reflects on the rewarding, and sometimes challenging, journey of the studio. The joy of conceiving ideas, working with a team, and seeing clients enjoy the spaces we create is what drives us.
Speaking at the Annual NASA Event at Ernad Knowledge City about design. The talk focused on simplicity, honesty, and intentions, and how good intentions are the most important parameter of good design.
A panel discussion at the NASA event. It was a great opportunity to discuss our design philosophy and engage with the next generation of architects.
2023 was a truly meaningful year for us. This video is a look back at some of our key moments, from designing rural schools to opening India’s largest makerspace and starting our own line of furniture. We look forward to another year of inspiration.
About this collection
Design is not about visual delight; it is about finding the simplest, most honest solution to a problem. We avoid rushing to aesthetic conclusions, preferring instead to spend our initial phase on deep site analysis, solar path orientation, and understanding the core intent of your project. This methodical approach ensures that every cantilever, material choice, and floor plan serves a clear, functional purpose in the built environment.
Our Approach: Logic over Trends
At Studio Chintala, we define good design as a byproduct of rigorous problem solving. We believe that if you answer a question honestly and logically, beauty naturally follows. Our practice is built on a refusal to follow fleeting trends, focusing instead on the fundamental requirements of space, light, and human interaction.
The Process
Every project we undertake follows a structured, collaborative journey:
- Deep Listening: Before we draw a single line, we facilitate conversations to understand your aspirations. We believe architecture must reflect the spirit of its time and the people who inhabit it.
- Site Harmony Analysis: We study contours, wind patterns, and solar paths to orient every building for natural cooling and light. Sustainability is not a checkbox for us; it is basic common sense.
- Integrated Design: We treat the master plan, building architecture, landscape, and wayfinding as one cohesive story. This is why we often design even the signage and furniture for our projects.
Why Minimalism Matters
We design boxes, but these boxes are meant to bring order to a chaotic world. Whether it is a luxury villa or a corporate campus, we strip things down to their fundamental simplicity. We prefer clean lines, raw materials like exposed concrete and steel, and thoughtful details over showy features. Our goal is quiet sophistication—spaces that foster collaboration, productivity, and peace. If you are looking for an architectural partner who values honesty, logic, and functional design, we are ready to listen.
Studio Chintala
We are Studio Chintala, a design practice that believes architecture should be quiet, functional, and honest. We strip away the noise to focus on what matters: creating spaces that bring order to a chaotic world and foster genuine human connection.
