Our Architectural Design Process and Vision
We build from the ground up, using physical models and site analysis to ensure every space feels honest, functional, and deeply personal.
A detailed section model of a private office project in Hyderabad, which we call Office A. Physical models are one of our favorite tools for studying the complex interplay of space, light, and material.
A top-down view of the Office A model. This perspective reveals the building's unique, angular footprint and the arrangement of internal courtyards and skylights designed to bring nature and light deep into the workspace.
The full section model of Office A. This shows the different levels of the building, including the stepped terraces and perforated screens that make up its dynamic facade.
Another view of the Office A section model. This model was crucial for us to understand and refine the building's complex volumes and the relationship between its different programmatic spaces.
An early-stage site plan for our Bengorm Estate home in Coonoor. The design process starts here, by carefully mapping the site and positioning the home to best capture the stunning views.
A more developed floor plan for the Bengorm Estate home. This drawing shows the layout of the main living spaces and how they are oriented to create a strong connection with the surrounding landscape.
We are honored to be included in the AD100 list for 2023. This recognition from Architectural Digest India is a wonderful acknowledgment of our team's passion and hard work.
A proud moment for our studio, being included in the AD100 list. It is a privilege to be featured alongside so much incredible talent from across the country.
About Our Design Process & Vision
We build physical models to study how natural light hits a specific wall at 4 PM or how a courtyard airflow changes the internal temperature. These models are not just for show; they are our primary tool for testing volume, scale, and the interplay between different materials before a single brick is laid. When you walk through a space we have designed, you are walking through a sequence of decisions we tested in these models.
The journey from a site plan to a finished building is rarely a straight line. For us, the design process is an iterative conversation between the site's unique conditions and the client's needs. Whether we are planning the Bengorm Estate in the hills of Coonoor or an office block in Hyderabad, we begin by mapping the environment.
Site-First Planning
Every project starts by understanding the land. We analyze wind patterns, sun orientation, and the existing vegetation. In our residential work, this often means orienting living areas to capture specific views or ensuring that natural light penetrates deep into the home. We document this in our early-stage drawings, which act as the foundation for everything that follows.
Testing Through Models
We rely heavily on section models to understand complex volumes. A 2D floor plan only tells part of the story. Physical models allow us to see how ceilings meet walls, where light filters through, and how different levels of a home relate to one another. For our private office projects, this helps us refine the placement of courtyards and screens, ensuring the layout encourages natural ventilation and provides privacy where needed.
Material Integrity
Our process includes choosing materials that age well and feel honest. We spend time in our studio prototyping details, such as how concrete meets timber or how a stone wall texture feels to the touch. This hands-on approach minimizes errors during construction and ensures that the final result matches the initial vision. We believe that good architecture is the result of continuous testing, collaboration, and a deep respect for the materials used.
