Civic & Institutional Architecture Design

We create civic spaces that balance monumental dignity with human-centered functionality. Our designs for public institutions focus on transparency, accessibility, and long-term sustainability.

This animated diagram shows the evolution of our design for the Telangana High Court. We begin by mapping attributes like movement, security, and sustainability, and then translate them into spaces that carry meaning and purpose.

Our design for the Telangana High Court, showing the public plaza and the main court buildings. The architecture is monumental but also open and inviting, with green spaces that make it accessible and human-scaled.

The grand colonnade of the Telangana High Court. The tall, slender columns create a sense of dignity and order, while the deep overhangs provide shade for the public spaces below. The design references classical forms but in a modern, minimalist language.

The courthouse is designed around a series of internal courtyards and green spaces. This brings natural light and ventilation deep into the building and provides tranquil spaces for people to gather, away from the formal court proceedings.

Architectural diagrams are an excellent tool to communicate our design logic. This motion graphic animation shows how the concept for the new Telangana High Court evolved, detailing zoning, parking, and movement patterns for different user groups.

Presenting the model of the Telangana High Court. Our goal was to create an earnest building rooted in the values of justice and democracy, a structure that commands respect without intimidation and fosters a sense of belonging.

About this collection

Our process for institutional projects begins with rigorous mapping of site attributes, movement patterns, and security requirements. By translating these complex variables into logical diagrams, we ensure that every square foot is optimized for efficiency. This data-driven approach removes the guesswork, resulting in architecture that is inherently functional and prepared for future expansion.

Institutional architecture serves as the backdrop for our democratic life. It requires a delicate balance between commanding respect and inviting public participation. We reject the idea that monumental buildings must be intimidating or overly decorative. Instead, we look to the principles of honest architecture where the structure itself explains its function.

Designing for the Public Realm

In our institutional work, we prioritize what we call a porous ground plane. This design strategy ensures that large-scale buildings do not act as barriers in the city, but rather as active contributors to the public fabric. By integrating green buffers, shaded plazas, and clear pedestrian flow, we create structures that respect the urban context.

The Logic of Functionality

We utilize tools like motion graphic diagrams to communicate design logic throughout our process. For projects like our Telangana High Court proposal, we focused on:

  • Site Harmony: Positioning blocks to align with natural contours, wind patterns, and light, rather than imposing a rigid grid upon the landscape.
  • Operational Efficiency: Implementing staggered layouts for courtrooms to allow for future expansion without disrupting daily operations or natural ventilation.
  • Sustainable Infrastructure: Designing passive cooling systems and thermal mass regulation to reduce long-term operational costs.

We believe that a well-designed civic building should feel like a part of the city. By focusing on clean lines, durable materials, and thoughtful zoning, we craft environments that remain relevant and dignified for decades, proving that true institutional strength comes from simplicity and clear, honest design.
