Our Architectural Process: From Concept to Craft

Architecture is an orchestra of decisions. We invite you into the behind-the-scenes journey of building a home, where initial sketches evolve through site analysis, material discovery, and hands-on craftsmanship.

Our process is an orchestra of decisions. Here, our team is on-site, discussing the texture and finish of a stone wall with the masons, ensuring every detail aligns with our design intent.

The journey of a material begins at its source. We visit quarries to handpick the stone for our projects, selecting blocks with the right color, tone, and character to tell the story of the building.

The hands of our master model maker, Vijay, meticulously crafting a detail. Physical models are a critical tool for us to study scale, proportion, and the play of light before construction begins.

We work closely with local artisans to integrate traditional crafts into our contemporary designs. These wooden figures are prototypes being developed with craftsmen in Hampi for an upcoming project.

This animated diagram shows the structural build-up of our Awas House, from the foundation to the hybrid system of concrete, dry walls, and a lightweight timber roof structure.

About this collection

Refining a design through physical models and on-site mock-ups is how we ensure your home feels right before construction begins. We encourage our clients to join us during these phases; touching the stone textures or walking through a full-scale wall mock-up gives you a tangible understanding of the space that drawings alone simply cannot capture.

The Foundation of Our Approach

Great architecture is not just drafted; it is discovered. Our process is rooted in a rigorous dialogue between the site, the materials, and the people who will live within the walls. We do not apply pre-set templates. Instead, we allow the project to emerge from the local context, sun-path analysis, and the specific needs of your family.

Phase 1: Exploration and Modeling

We believe in the power of the hand. Before we move to complex structural engineering, we study scale and proportion through physical models. These models allow us to test the play of light and shadow, helping you visualize the spatial flow and atmosphere of your home in three dimensions. This is where we define the relationship between the structure and the landscape.

Phase 2: Material Sourcing and Mock-ups

Materials carry stories. Whether it is selecting the right grain of timber or sourcing stone from a local quarry, we obsess over details that define the building's character. We frequently build full-scale mock-ups on site to test finishes, joint details, and paint textures. This practice helps us refine structural decisions like hybrid framing or facade systems, ensuring that what you see in the design phase is exactly what you get at the end.

Phase 3: Collaborative Craft

Our work is an act of collaboration with master artisans. We integrate traditional crafts—such as black pottery or intricate timber joinery—into modern residential design. By working side-by-side with masons and craftsmen, we ensure the execution aligns with our vision for climate-responsive, sustainable architecture. This direct oversight on-site is how we maintain quality and bring a human touch to every wall and room.

Why This Matters

This hands-on, rigorous process ensures that your home is not just a building, but a sanctuary. By focusing on the craft, we create resilient, light-filled spaces that are designed to age gracefully and evolve with your family.
