The Art of Yoga Teaching and Correction
True teaching is about observing with compassion and guiding with precision. Learn how to provide safe, effective adjustments that respect every student's body.
A teacher provides a gentle adjustment in Balasana (Child's Pose), helping the student release tension in the back and shoulders.
An elder teacher offers guidance in Child's Pose. The wisdom of experience is passed down through careful, compassionate correction.
A smile of understanding as a student receives a correction for their seated posture. Proper alignment is the key to a comfortable and deep meditation practice.
I am adjusting a student's neck and shoulder alignment to ensure her spine is perfectly straight for pranayama practice.
A student beams as she feels the correct alignment with a teacher's help. These moments of breakthrough are what make teaching so rewarding.
Using visual aids during a theory class. Here, I am explaining the finer points of seated postures by projecting an image for detailed analysis.
A teacher assists a student with Sirsasana (Headstand), ensuring their foundation is stable and their alignment is safe. This is a core part of learning to teach inversions.
Demonstrating the correct form for a flat back in the Surya Namaskar sequence. Proper technique prevents injury and maximizes benefits.
Explaining the transition into Ashwa Sanchalanasana (Equestrian Pose) during a Sun Salutation workshop.
A hands-on correction in Ashtanga Namaskara (Eight-Limbed Pose) to ensure the student engages the correct muscles.
About The Art of Teaching & Correction
In our training, we look beyond the pose. You will learn the 'why' behind every adjustment, focusing on safe alignment and how to support a student’s body without force. It is not about correcting for perfection, but helping each student find their own version of comfort and stability in the asana.
Teaching is a responsibility. When you stand before a group, your words and your touch shape their experience. We believe that a good teacher is first a good observer.
In our TTC programs, we strip away the ego. You will not just learn how to do an asana—you will learn how to teach it. This includes:
- The Science of Correction: We focus on gentle, supportive adjustments rather than forceful corrections. You will learn to identify tightness in the shoulders, hips, or spine and offer cues that help the student release tension rather than build resistance.
- Communication Skills: Finding your voice as a teacher is a process. We provide a safe, non-judgmental space to practice leading sequences, giving clear verbal cues, and managing a room full of diverse bodies.
- Peer Feedback: You are not just learning from me. You learn by watching your fellow trainees and receiving constructive feedback in a supportive sangha environment.
- Safety First: Understanding anatomy helps you prevent injury. We teach you how to modify poses for beginners, those with back pain, or students dealing with stiffness.
Whether you aim to become an RYT-200 certified instructor or simply want to deepen your own practice, these skills will change how you view the mat.
