About The Art of Teaching: Alignment & Adjustment
The most critical skill for a teacher is not just knowing the pose, but knowing where to place your hands to assist a student safely. In these sessions, we focus on tactile guiding—understanding the anatomy of a stretch, recognizing when to deepen, and how to use blocks and straps to protect the spine. You will learn to feel the resistance in a student's body so you can support them without causing strain.
Knowing how to execute a pose is one thing, but guiding another person into it is an entirely different discipline. Many students come to our training programs with years of personal practice, yet struggle when they stand at the front of the room. This cluster focuses on closing that gap.
The Science of Safe Adjustments
We prioritize safety above everything. Whether it is a basic backbend or an advanced forearm stand, you will learn why an adjustment is necessary and, more importantly, when to withhold it. We teach the 'why' behind every touch. Using props like yoga wheels, blocks, and straps is not just for convenience; it is a vital teaching tool for creating space where there is none. You will practice these adjustments on each other, learning to adapt your touch for different body types and flexibility levels.
Practical Classroom Skills
Our sessions cover:
- Anatomy-Based Adjustments: Understanding muscle engagement for Purna Dhanurasana and Scorpion Pose preparation.
- Prop Integration: Using blocks to elevate the chest and open shoulders without compressing the lower back.
- Proprioception: Helping students find their own balance in inversions, such as in our anti-gravity or forearm stand drills.
- Confidence Building: Learning the verbal and non-verbal cues that make students feel secure while exploring their physical limits.
This is not a theoretical course. You will be on the mat, working with real people, and learning the responsibility that comes with teaching. It is our kula, our community, where we practice, learn, and grow together in our studios in New Rajinder Nagar, Delhi, and DLF Phase 5, Gurugram.
