A Peek Inside Our Sunlit Pottery Studio in Bandra
Step into our quiet pocket of Pali Hill. Here, the hum of the wheel and the light filtering through the trees make for the perfect creative escape.
This is the space where I hope people can find a moment of peace and creativity. I set up the studio to be open and accessible, a true community space for art.
A quiet corner of the studio, with shelves of works-in-progress waiting to be fired. The glass door looks out onto the garden path, always connecting us to the nature outside.
The little moments in the studio are often the most beautiful. The light through the trees, the quiet hum of the wheel, and the feeling of wet clay in your hands.
Just another day at the lab. This is a quick look at the whole pottery making process, from centering clay on the wheel to rolling slabs and painting the finished bisque ware.
We are tucked away in the quiet, green neighborhood of Pali Hill in Bandra. It's a peaceful spot that feels far away from the city bustle.
About Our Sunlit Studio & Process
When you visit us, you are not just walking into a classroom. We are tucked away in a quiet, green corner of Pali Hill that feels miles away from the Mumbai bustle. Whether you are centering your first ball of clay on the wheel or glazing your bisque pieces, the studio is designed for a slow, mindful pace where you can truly disconnect.
I started The Pottery Lab in 2015 to make art accessible to everyone. The studio is defined by its natural light and the connection to the nature outside our glass doors. It is a community space that has seen over 8,000 stories spun on the wheel over the last decade.
The Pottery Process
- Wheel Throwing: We focus on the basics of centering and pulling walls. It is a physical exercise that requires focus and patience.
- Hand-Building: From pinching to coiling, this is where you can explore form without the mechanics of the wheel.
- Finishing: Every piece undergoes a two-stage firing process in our kiln, reaching high temperatures to become food-safe and durable. You will return to collect your finished, waterproof work about 4 weeks after your session.
Why the Studio Matters
Art has the power to shift your state of mind. By spending a couple of hours here, you allow yourself to step out of the daily grind and into a sensory practice. We provide everything from aprons to clay and tools. You just need to bring yourself, your curiosity, and perhaps a friend to share the experience with. We are proud of this 10-year journey and the safe, creative environment we have built in the heart of Mumbai.
The Pottery Lab
I am Rekha Goyal. After 26 years of playing with clay, I started this lab to give people a place to breathe. It is not just about making pots; it is about finding that calm, creative headspace right here in Mumbai.
