Our Creative Pottery Studio in Byculla
More than just wheels and kilns, this is our creative adda. Come for the quiet practice or stay to share ideas with fellow potters in the heart of Byculla.
A quick look at a day in the life of a potter at our studio. It's a cycle of wedging clay, throwing on the wheel, trimming, glazing, and firing. This is the constant 'riyaaz' of our craft.
A typical day here is a mix of focused work and shared activity. This video shows members working on the wheel, preparing clay slabs, and mixing glazes, all part of the co-working environment we foster.
From spraying glazes to mixing new batches and collaborating on projects, the studio is always buzzing with activity. This is a glimpse into the daily work that goes into every finished piece.
Pottery is not just about the wheel. This video shows an artist meticulously carving a complex architectural relief from a block of clay, a testament to the diverse forms of sculptural work done here.
The whole team and community members gathered for our Ganesh Chaturthi puja. The idol and the decorations were all made in-house with our own clay, making the celebration truly ours.
Smiles and festive spirit during our Ganesh Chaturthi celebration at the studio. It's moments like these that turn a workspace into a family of artists.
About The Studio: Our Creative 'Adda'
If you plan to work here, remember that we treat pottery as a craft, not a quick project. Clay and firing are billed separately because we want you to only pay for the materials you actually use. Our focus is on providing a functional space where you can center yourself, mess up, and eventually get it right.
The studio isn't a classroom with a rigid syllabus. It is an open floor for anyone who treats pottery as their daily practice. When I started Studio White & Gray, I wanted a place where the barrier to entry was low but the commitment to the craft was real. Whether you are throwing on the wheel or slab-building, the goal remains the same: steady, incremental progress.
We provide the infrastructure—electric pottery wheels, slab rollers, extruders, and plenty of space to get messy. You bring your curiosity and your clay. Since we believe in transparency, our pricing separates facility access from materials and firing. This means if you are just practicing techniques without finishing pieces, you do not pay for kiln space you aren't using.
This is a workspace for local artists and hobbyists from across Mumbai. You will find people here working on everything from functional ceramics to complex sculptural reliefs. It is not uncommon to see students sharing glazing tips or debating the science of clay bodies. We keep the vibe unpretentious, focused, and collaborative. If you are looking for a sterile environment, this might not be for you. If you are looking for a space to get your hands dirty, share ideas, and be part of a community that values the process over the product, you are welcome here.
