About this collection
When you order our thali, know that it is not a quick-fix meal. The rice is steamed carefully, the meats are smoked over firewood, and our chutneys are made fresh with Raja Mircha sourced directly from Nagaland farmers. Expect strong, bold flavours—this is food meant to be savoured slowly, just as we do back home in Dimapur.
At Naga Belly, we believe the thali is the best way to understand our cuisine. It is not just a lunch plate; it is a balanced representation of how we eat in Nagaland.
What makes our Thali authentic:
- The Staples: We offer a choice of sticky rice (purple, red, or steamed white). This is the foundation of every meal and is traditionally eaten by hand.
- The Protein: Choose from our signature Smoked Pork with Bamboo Shoot, Chicken with Axone, or our Fish Curry. Every meat is prepared using traditional methods—slow-smoked over firewood or boiled in iron pots to maintain an oil-free, clean taste.
- The Sides: A thali always includes seasonal boiled greens (like mustard leaves) and our fiery Raja Mircha chutney to balance the fat and texture of the meats.
Ingredients matter
We bring our key ingredients directly from the farmers’ markets in Nagaland. Using local substitutes just does not produce the same result. When you taste our fermented soybean (Axone) or smoked taro leaves (Anishi), you are tasting the same ingredients we use in our own home. This food is simple, honest, and heavy on flavour. Whether you are curious about Naga culture or just want a hearty, healthy meal, our thali is the best place to start your journey.
Naga Belly
We are Aren and Juliet, childhood friends from Dimapur who started this journey in our home kitchen. We wanted to share the food we grew up with, so we brought our traditional methods and ingredients straight to Mumbai. Come by for a meal and treat yourself like family.
