About Our Community & Instructors
When you step into our class, you will notice we focus on non-contact play. We are not here to spar or compete, but to have a conversation through movement. This makes our environment safe and welcoming even if you have zero previous experience or athletic background.
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that blends movement, music, and community. At our academy, the Roda is the heart of everything we do. It is where we apply the Ginga, basic kicks, and escapes we practice in drills. You will not find the aggression typical of other martial arts here. Instead, you will see acrobatics, handstands, and a constant exchange of energy we call Axé.
Our teaching philosophy is built on accessibility. We believe that everyone can play. Our instructors bring diverse perspectives to the table, ranging from deep cultural knowledge of Brazilian roots to expertise in modern acrobatics and movement flow. We don't just teach the physical side; you will learn the history, sing songs in Portuguese, and pick up traditional instruments like the Berimbau.
What to expect at our sessions:
- Beginner Friendly: Our intro sessions focus on foundational movements like the Ginga and basic defensive maneuvers, ensuring you feel confident before you join the game.
- Music & Culture: You will learn call-and-response songs in Portuguese, which is essential to understanding the rhythm and timing of the Roda.
- Skill Development: For those interested in the acrobatic side, we offer specific workshops for handstands, cartwheels, and partner flows.
- Community Focus: We host events like our annual Batizado festival to bring our community from Mumbai and Bengaluru together, fostering a sense of belonging that goes beyond a standard workout class.
Whether you are looking to build strength, learn a new skill, or just find a supportive tribe, our instructors are here to help you find your own flow.
