Student Journeys: Real Progress and Dedication
Yoga is about consistency, not perfection. Here are a few snapshots of my students’ journeys—from their first wobbly poses to mastering strength, balance, and alignment.
I love to see my students making progress. This student went from struggling with lifting in Chakrasana, or wheel pose, to holding it with ease. Her dedication is so inspiring.
Some students remind you why you do what you do. This student has been showing up to class for years, rain or shine. He teaches me the power of consistency, not perfection.
I am so inspired by my student's dedication. Here he is challenging himself with inversions, showing how consistency is the key to progress in your yoga journey.
Another shot of my dedicated student in Salamba Sarvangasana, or supported shoulder stand. His commitment to the practice is an inspiration to everyone in the class.
My student gives us all the Friday motivation we need. Here he is flowing from crow pose into a headstand, showing incredible strength and control. No excuses.
About Student Journeys
You don't need to be flexible to start your yoga practice; you just need to be consistent. My students start exactly where you are—struggling with balance or stiffness—and we use specific props like blocks and straps to bridge that gap. Watching someone go from shaky to steady in a pose like Chakrasana isn't about fitness metrics; it's about building a trusting, patient relationship with your own body over time.
Growth in yoga is rarely linear. In my sessions at the Santacruz West studio, we don't focus on looking like the final pose. Instead, we break down the mechanics of movement using Hatha and Vinyasa principles to make challenging asanas safe and accessible for everyone.
The Practice of Progress
Many students come to me thinking they need to touch their toes before they can join a class. Whether we are practicing inversions or simple hip openers, my approach is centered on 'alignment over appearance.'
- Prop-Based Learning: We use blocks, straps, and wall support to help you find stability. It isn't a shortcut; it's a tool to build the strength required for the full pose.
- Consistency vs. Intensity: You will see some of my students in these photos holding challenging inversions or backbends with ease. That level of control wasn't built in a week. It comes from showing up, rain or shine, and listening to what the body needs that day.
- Safe Modalities: For those working on injury rehabilitation or building foundational strength, we focus on small, incremental improvements. We track progress not by how deep you go, but by how well you breathe and move through the transition.
