About Yoga with Props: Deeper Practice, Better Alignment

Many people think using a chair or wall rope is for 'weak' students, but honestly, it is the exact opposite. Using these props helps you isolate specific muscles and fix your alignment faster than doing it on a bare mat. If you have been struggling with a pose or feeling stiffness, these tools let you hold the position safely and get the exact stretch your body needs.

Most people walk into a yoga class, drop a mat, and try to copy the teacher. That is where the trouble starts, especially if you have back pain, tight shoulders, or just have not moved in a while. Using props like wall ropes (Kurunta), chairs, bricks, and wheels is not a shortcut or a crutch. It is the smartest way to train.

When we use a chair or a strap, we are not making it easy. We are removing the physical restriction that keeps you from hitting the right pose. For example, using a wall rope allows you to experience deep backbends without putting strain on your spine, helping you open up your chest and heart space safely. If you have been stuck at a desk all day, these props help us get into those tight hip and shoulder muscles that a simple floor stretch just cannot reach.

At my Defence Colony studio, I keep batches small, usually 6 to 12 students. This is crucial because it allows me to give you hands-on alignment adjustments while you are using the props. Whether you are using a block to find stability in a standing balance or a wheel to safely explore a heart-opener, you get the precise guidance you need to move without fear of injury. If you have been intimidated by advanced yoga, come join a class. We use these tools to build your strength and confidence, so you can eventually flow with ease on the mat, with or without the props.
