Props like ropes, chairs, and belts are not crutches; they are tools for precision. Whether you are working on advanced strength or managing an injury, these supports help you find the right alignment safely.

Chair yoga is for everyone. Here, my students are using chairs for a supported forward bend, which helps to lengthen the spine and stretch the hamstrings without any strain on the lower back.

This is an advanced backbend using a chair to open the thoracic spine. This prop-assisted method allows for a deeper, more targeted stretch that is difficult to achieve otherwise.

Working towards Hanuman Asana (the splits) requires patience and props. Here, a student uses wall ropes for support and blocks to gradually deepen the leg stretch safely.

Mayurasana (Peacock Pose) is a challenging arm balance. By using blocks for elevation and a belt for arm stability, my student can safely work on building the necessary strength and balance.

This student is also using blocks and a belt to master the alignment for Mayurasana. Props are essential tools for learning and perfecting difficult poses.

This is a forward bending drill for advanced practitioners only. Under guidance, we use chairs and weights to achieve a much deeper hamstring and spinal stretch.

Using wall ropes to practice a full-body extension. This Iyengar-inspired technique builds incredible core strength and teaches body awareness.

About Yoga with Props for Deeper Practice

Many people think using ropes or chairs makes yoga 'easy,' but it is actually the opposite. In my sessions, we use these props to access deeper stretches that your body might naturally resist. By using wall ropes for traction or blocks for stability, you can hold poses longer and fix your alignment without risking strain, which is crucial if you are recovering from an injury or working on a stiff back.
