A Danda Yoga session at our Gurugram studio. Using the stick for side bends helps you get a deeper stretch and you will love your waistline after practicing this regularly.

Using the danda (stick) to maintain alignment and deepen the squat in Utkatasana (Chair Pose). This is a great way to build strength in the legs and back.

Personal fitness classes are also available. Here, a client is using wall ropes to assist with a deep backbend, allowing for a safe and supported stretch.

About Deeper Practice with Danda Yoga & Props

Many people think yoga is just about flexibility, but using a danda (wooden stick) changes everything. It creates a frame for your body, helping you keep your spine straight and shoulders open in poses like Utkatasana. It is not about adding weight; it is about finding the right alignment so your muscles work safely without unnecessary strain. You will notice a difference in your waistline and posture within weeks simply because you are no longer cheating your form.

Props are not a shortcut. Think of them as a teacher for your body. When you use a bamboo stick, you realize exactly where your alignment is slipping. It forces your shoulders back and your chest open, which is exactly what we need after long hours of sitting at desks.

In my studio in Sector 46, we use props for two main reasons: safety and depth.

Why We Use Danda and Ropes

  • Danda Yoga: Using a wooden stick creates a stable axis. Whether you are doing side bends or deep squats, the stick ensures both sides of your body are working equally. It gives you the support to hold poses longer, which is how you actually build strength.
  • Wall Ropes: Sometimes, you need support to let go. Ropes allow you to hang and stretch your spine in ways that floor yoga does not permit. It is brilliant for back pain and sciatica because it provides traction without the fear of falling. It helps you get into inversions safely, even if you are a beginner.

If you have been struggling with a plateau or constant back aches, stop relying on just your body weight. Come experience how these simple tools can unlock better movement. Whether you join our group sessions or personal classes, we make sure you learn how to use these tools properly so you can eventually feel comfortable in the pose on your own.

I am Meenakshi. I believe yoga should be accessible, and sometimes your body needs a little help to get into the right flow. I use props like the danda and ropes because they help us get the posture right, preventing injury while deepening the stretch for everyone, from beginners to experienced students.
