Props-Assisted Yoga: Alignment and Support
Think props are just for beginners? Think again. We use ropes, wheels, and sticks to help you deepen stretches, correct posture, and safely reach poses you thought were impossible.
I've installed this set of Iyengar ropes in our studio, and they are incredible. They help improve shoulder strength, open the chest, and enhance both backbends and forward bends. This is not just for advanced students; it's a game changer for beginners and those with back pain.
Our authentic yoga studio in Paschim Vihar is fully equipped for various styles of practice. Here, students are using the Iyengar ropes to practice inversions like Sirsasana (Headstand) with support, allowing them to hold the pose longer and gain confidence.
I move my body because movement is medicine. Here, I am using blocks to support an arm balance and an aerial hammock for a suspended pose. Props are not a crutch; they are tools to explore your body's potential intelligently.
Here's how we use the yoga wheel to relieve back pain. These simple stretches help to gently massage the spine, release tension, and improve flexibility. The wheel is a fantastic prop for opening the upper back and shoulders.
The yoga wheel is a versatile prop that can transform your practice. We use it to enhance flexibility, improve balance, and deepen stretches. It's especially effective for relieving spinal tension and opening the chest.
A class in session, using yoga wheels to open the chest and shoulders in Anahatasana (Melting Heart Pose). This supported stretch feels incredible and helps counteract the effects of sitting at a desk all day.
Using the yoga wheel to ease into and improve Shalabhasana (Locust Pose). The wheel provides support under the hips, allowing students to lift higher and build back strength with proper form. I am here to provide hands-on assistance.

Using a stick as a prop can bring a new level of awareness to your backbends. It provides stability and acts as a guide, helping you to open your spine evenly and with control. Every day is a new opportunity to learn.
Stick Yoga is a regular feature in our classes. Using a stick or danda helps with alignment, balance, and deepening stretches in poses like this seated leg extension. It's a great tool for improving posture and body awareness.
About Props-Assisted Yoga: Alignment & Support
People often think props are a crutch, but in my studio, they are the reason my students with chronic back pain finally find relief. I have installed dedicated Iyengar wall ropes that provide the necessary traction for your spine, helping you safely deepen backbends and inversions without strain. It is not about being flexible enough to touch your toes yet; it is about using the right tool to get there without hurting yourself.
Real Alignment, Not Just Poses
Yoga is not about putting your body into a shape you saw on social media. It is about how your body moves and feels. That is why I use props in almost every session at my Paschim Vihar studio. Whether you are dealing with cervical pain, lower back issues, or just want to master a difficult asana, props act as an extension of your own arms and legs.
The Tools We Use
- Iyengar Wall Ropes: These are a game changer. They offer spinal traction, allowing you to hang and stretch areas of your back that are usually stuck. It is a 'rambaan' (universal cure) for many of my students dealing with long-term back pain.
- Yoga Wheels: These are my favorite for opening the chest and shoulders. If you spend your day hunched over a laptop, the wheel helps counteract that posture, releasing tension in the upper back.
- Sticks & Belts: We use these for precise alignment during twisting and side-bending movements. They force you to engage the right muscles rather than cheating the pose.
- Blocks: Essential for bringing the floor closer to you. When you cannot reach the ground in a forward fold, blocks ensure you can still maintain a long, healthy spine.
Why Practice With Me?
I have seen teens, busy professionals, and seniors over 70 all share the same room. The props level the playing field. You don't need to be naturally flexible to join; you just need to be ready to show up. My instructions are based on hands-on adjustments and verbal cues, so you are never left guessing how to use a wheel or rope. If you want a practice that actually fits your body and helps you heal rather than just sweating through a sequence, let's get on the mat.
