Smart Yoga: Accessible Practice with Props

Not every body is ready for a textbook pose. We use props like chairs, ropes, and blocks to ensure your practice is safe, smart, and suited to your current flexibility, no matter your age or physical condition.

A yoga chair is a fantastic tool for deepening stretches and improving posture safely. My students use chairs to explore poses like a supported side angle bend, making the practice both transformative and accessible for all levels.

Chair yoga is a gentle yet effective form of yoga suitable for all ages and abilities. In this class, we use chairs to practice variations of locust pose and downward dog, modifying the asanas to suit individual needs.

Backbends can be made much more accessible with the support of a chair. This video shows students using chairs to safely explore deep stretches and backbend asanas, enhancing flexibility and confidence.

We incorporate light dumbbells and chairs into our practice to build functional strength. These exercises are designed to tone the arms and reduce fat by combining resistance training with yogic principles of mindful movement.

A fit body cannot be bought; it must be earned. Here, my students use wall ropes to build incredible core and upper body strength, proving that true wealth is physical health earned through consistent effort.

Wall rope yoga at the Shakti Yoga Center allows for deep, supported stretches and inversions. This clip shows the dynamic energy of a class as students use the ropes to explore poses they might not be able to on the mat alone.

From supported stretches to full inversions, wall rope yoga offers a complete practice. This video showcases the versatility of the ropes in a group class setting, helping students build strength and decompress the spine.

Yogah Karmasu Kaushalam: Yoga is skill in action. Using wall ropes, my students practice warrior variations and side stretches with enhanced stability, allowing them to focus on the skill and precision of the pose.

This is a demonstration of how wall ropes can be used for a variety of stretches and strengthening poses. From a supported plank to a warrior pose, the ropes provide feedback and assistance for deeper alignment.

I demonstrate how to use the wall ropes for various standing poses and forward folds. The ropes help in achieving greater length in the spine and a deeper stretch in the hamstrings.

About Smart Yoga: Accessible Practice with Props

Forget 'no pain, no gain'—here, if the body says no, the props say yes. Whether you are using our wall-mounted ropes for spinal decompression, metal chairs for supported backbends, or blocks to master an arm balance, these tools are not shortcuts. They are bridges that allow you to hold asanas longer and with better alignment, ensuring your practice is about healing rather than strain.

When you practice at Shakti Yoga Studio in Rohini, we move beyond the superficial look of an asana. I believe yoga is skill in action—Yogah Karmasu Kaushalam. If your body is stiff, injured, or simply new to these movements, forcing a pose often leads to setbacks. That is where our prop-based approach becomes essential.

Why We Use Props

Props are not crutches; they are feedback tools. A bamboo stick can show you if your shoulders are uneven. A yoga belt can help you find length in a forward fold without rounding your spine. A metal chair provides the stability needed for those with limited mobility to practice standing poses or deep backbends safely.

Specialized Tools for Real Results

  • Wall-Mounted Ropes: We use these for traction, helping to decompress the spine and provide relief for cervical and back issues.
  • Chairs: Used for supported inversions and heart-opening poses that might otherwise be inaccessible.
  • Blocks and Belts: Essential for maintaining structural alignment during Hatha Yoga flows, ensuring you build strength in the right muscles.

My Philosophy

My approach is to help you realize that you are not just a person, but Shakti—an energy waiting to be channeled. By removing the fear of injury through smart alignment, we can focus on the breath and the internal experience. Whether you join us for a single therapeutic relief session or a monthly membership focused on lifestyle management, the goal remains the same: practice smarter, not harder. This is how we create a sustainable practice that lasts a lifetime, allowing you to find freedom from pain and overthinking naturally.
