Featured Tabla Performances and Collaborations
A personal collection of my tabla journeys, from complex solo recitals to soul-stirring musical conversations with fellow artists.
Deeply focused during a performance at the Megh Malhar Festival at Nehru Centre, Mumbai. For me, every concert is a form of meditation, a space where I connect with the music and the audience.
A demonstration of a challenging 'Chakradhar' composition taught to me by the revered tabla maestro Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri. This piece is a complex rhythmic cycle that repeats three times, landing perfectly on the first beat.
A cherished moment sharing the stage with my Aai, Vidushi Shalmalee Joshi, at the Megh Malhar Festival. Accompanying her is always a profound learning experience.
In a high-energy 'Jugalbandi' or percussion duet with the talented Sukhad Munde on Pakhawaj at the National Rhythm Festival in Kerala. These rhythmic dialogues are always a thrill.
Accompanying my friend Pratik Shrivastava on the sarod during an intimate 'baithak' or house concert. I love the personal connection and shared energy of these smaller, acoustic settings.
Performing for the Shree Vitthal Rukmini Temple Trust during a UK tour. It was an honor to play devotional music for the community in London, with a beautiful backdrop of Lord Vitthal and Rukmini.
A moment of quiet reflection with my tabla. It is more than just an instrument to me; it is a constant companion on my musical and spiritual journey.
About Featured
When I am on stage—or sitting on the floor for an intimate baithak—it is never just about me playing the tabla. It is about 'sangat', that shared space between me and the vocalist or instrumentalist. Whether you are planning a house concert or a larger event, I make sure the rhythm adapts to the mood, keeping the sound balanced and deeply connected to the main artist.
My musical journey is anchored in the traditional Purab Gharana style, but my approach changes with every stage I step onto. This featured collection showcases the breadth of my work, from the meditative, high-energy cycles of a solo recital to the spontaneous magic of a jugalbandi.
The Art of Sangat
Accompaniment is a conversation. Whether I am supporting a khayal vocalist, a sarod player, or performing at a temple gathering, my priority is to listen and respond. I focus on precise tuning and dynamic control so that the tabla complements the melody rather than overpowering it. I have had the honor of sharing the stage with established names at venues like the Nehru Centre and even performing abroad, which has taught me how to adjust my performance to suit different acoustics and audience sizes.
What I Bring to Your Event
- Solo Recitals: I explore traditional compositions like Kayda, Rela, and the complex Chakradhar. These are perfect for classical music lovers who appreciate the nuances of taal.
- Collaborative Performances: I bring a rhythmic dialogue to vocal or instrumental concerts. I am comfortable with various genres, including bhajans, thumri, and Hindustani classical.
- Private Baithaks: For intimate home gatherings, I keep the setup minimal and focused on the acoustic experience, ensuring a personal connection with the audience.
Every performance is a form of meditation for me. I bring my professional tabla set, arrive early for a thorough sound check, and ensure the attire and stage etiquette fit the sanctity of your event.
