A glimpse into the journey beyond the stage—the sound checks, travel, and the quiet moments that shape my music.

A black and white candid shot from a concert. Sometimes joy says something that happy can't.

A candid moment on stage, taking a quick water break. One sip at a time, folks!

A quiet moment with my tabla. For me, the only proof needed for the existence of God is music.

A moment captured at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre after a superb Jasrangi concert.

A casual click during a sound check. Beautiful melodies telling me terrible things.

With my Aai at the Mahalaxmi temple in Kolhapur. These moments of travel and spirituality are very precious.

A moment of peace at the ancient temple in Kolhapur.

On the plane, heading to the UK for a music tour with my friend Abhed Abhisheki.

At the airport, ready for our UK tour. The journey is as much a part of the experience as the destination.

Receiving blessings and a shawl from Shashi Vyas kaka after a performance. His words are always a source of great inspiration.

About Behind the Music

Before every concert, whether at a prestigious venue like Prithvi Theatre or an intimate baithak, there is a ritual. The sound check is where I find my focus, tuning the tabla to the specific acoustics of the room and ensuring the resonance is perfect for the vocalist or instrumentalist I am accompanying. It is here, away from the spotlight, that the real musical conversation begins.

Music is a constant travel. From flying to the UK for a tour with Abhed Abhisheki to quiet mornings at temples in Kolhapur with my Aai, these experiences feed my art. When I am not on stage, I am often in practice sessions, focusing on complex bols or perfecting the nuance of a laggi.

When I am backing a vocalist or instrumentalist, it is not just about keeping rhythm; it is about 'sangat'—the art of moving side-by-side with the main artist. That is why the pre-event sound check is so crucial. I need that time to sync with the venue’s sound engineer and understand the nuances of the artist's style, whether it is Khayal, Thumri, or a devotional Bhajan.

If you are planning a private baithak or a concert, know that I bring this same discipline and respect for the tradition to every setting. My goal is always to create a space where the music can breathe, whether for a small, private audience or a full auditorium.

I'm Tejovrush, and my world revolves around the tabla. Growing up with my Aai singing, I learned early that music is about connection—whether I'm performing at a major venue or a small baithak at home.
