Experience music as a sadhana—a spiritual practice. At Swarveni, we follow the traditional Guru-Shishya parampara, focusing on emotional depth and Raga nuances in an intimate classroom setting.

In my class, I constantly remind my students to ask themselves: "Is there emotion in the line you’re singing?" This question is the foundation of our musical exploration.

A fun moment in class where we work on mastering the bols of a particular taal. Learning rhythm is as crucial as learning melody in Hindustani music.

Here, we are learning and exploring the beautiful Raag Basant. Each class is an opportunity to delve deeper into the nuances of a new raga with focused guidance.

A classroom session where students are fully immersed in the music. I often make these sessions interactive, asking students to identify the raga being sung.

This is a 'Palta Riyaz' session at the Gurukul. Consistent and disciplined practice of these scale exercises is essential for developing vocal flexibility and control.

Students learning Raga Puriya, known as the king of night ragas. Understanding the theory and feeling of each raga is a core part of our curriculum.

We encourage students to practice together. Here is a new palta exercise for students to learn and save for their daily riyaz.

A glimpse into an evening class where students are learning a Thumri in Raga Des. The atmosphere is one of shared learning and mutual respect.

As Holi approaches, our classes are filled with the festive spirit. Here, we are learning a traditional Holi song, connecting our music to our cultural celebrations.

Every class has its magical moments. A spontaneous musical exchange with a student on the flute, guided by my harmonium, showcases the joy of learning together.

About The Guru-Shishya Parampara: Our Classes

Classes here are conducted in an intimate, floor-seating baithak style in Rohini, rather than a standard academic setup. Instead of rigid, mechanical drills, we focus on Palta exercises and Raga nuances that prioritize expression. I personally guide every session, often stopping to ask, 'Jo line gaa rahe ho usme bhaav bana ya nahi bana?'—because technical perfection means little if the emotion is missing.
