About Indian Voice & Hindustani Music
Our learning process moves beyond rote memorization. We use traditional tanpura support and guided listening sessions to help you actually internalize the nuances of a raag, not just replicate the notes. Whether you join our individual coaching sessions or our Saturday group classes, we prioritize active engagement, ensuring you understand the aesthetic methods behind forms like khayal, qawwali, and tappa.
At Lilanoor, we believe in a holistic approach to Indian music education. Our curriculum is designed for learners to develop their own creative voice, drawing from the deep traditions of Hindustani classical music while remaining open to allied forms.
Our Approach
- Deep Listening & Theory: Understanding the 'why' behind the music is just as important as the performance. We incorporate regular listening sessions and guided discussions on the history of various gharanas to enrich your context.
- Technical & Expressive Balance: We focus on core vocal development—breath control, intonation, and ear training—while simultaneously exploring the expressive possibilities of the Lucknow Gharana style.
- Flexible Learning: We recognize that your creative journey is unique. That is why we offer both individual mentorship, tailored specifically to your goals and pace, and small group sessions that foster a collaborative environment.
The Space
Our center in South Extension II is designed as a sanctuary for artists. We provide an acoustically treated environment where you can work comfortably with a tanpura, professional sound systems, and a community of peers who share your passion.
Who This Is For
Whether you are a complete beginner curious about the world of Raag Sangeet, or a musician looking to deepen your grasp of thumri and folk traditions, our classes are structured to accommodate your current level. There are no rigid audition requirements—just a commitment to showing up, practicing, and exploring the beauty of sound.
