Homes Designed to Frame Nature and Park Views
We believe a home should act as a lens for its surroundings. By utilizing borrowed landscapes and responsive facades, we turn the city's green spaces into a permanent feature of your living area.
We believe in using the environment as an extension of the home. This reading nook in 'Houses by a Park' uses the adjoining green space as a "borrowed landscape," with a carpet of grass on the balcony visually pulling the park right into the room.
Our facades are designed to be responsive. These operable, slated wooden screens for the 'Houses by a Park' project allow residents to control sunlight, airflow, and privacy. They are a functional element that also creates a dynamic, ever-changing building exterior.
About Houses by a Park: Architecture as a Frame for Nature
The slated wooden screens you see in this project are functional, operable components, not just visual features. They allow you to manually adjust the level of sunlight and privacy throughout the day, filtering harsh afternoon heat into soft, dappled light while keeping the interior cool.
Our approach to what we call 'borrowed landscapes' begins with rigorous site analysis. Before we draw a single wall, we study the sun path and prevailing wind directions. This ensures the building does not just face the park, but breathes with it.
Why This Approach Works
-
Responsive Facades Instead of standard windows, we design operable screens that manage the connection between your private life and the public space. By sliding or adjusting these panels, you control the boundary between your home and the outdoors, creating a space that feels open yet secure.
-
Material Honesty We prefer materials that age gracefully. You will find exposed concrete, Kota stone, and teak wood throughout our work. These surfaces do not hide their nature behind layers of synthetic paint or cladding. Instead, they develop a patina over time, gaining character as your home settles into its environment.
-
Biophilic Integration We treat balconies and courtyards as active living spaces, not just decorative additions. By extending indoor flooring patterns to external balconies or planting vertical greenery, we visually pull the park inside, making the floor plan feel expansive and connected to the landscape.
We prioritize flexibility over fixed layouts. Whether it involves sliding partitions, built-in window seats that serve as storage, or triple-height light wells, our designs adapt to how you use your space. If you want a home that feels rooted in its location rather than placed upon it, we should discuss the potential of your site.
