Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Spaces in Bengaluru
We design homes that breathe, blurring the lines between your living room and the landscape. From tropical pool decks to sunlit courtyards, these spaces are crafted to live in harmony with the outdoors.
The Siri residence was designed as a seamless extension of its natural landscape. The structure respects and celebrates the existing trees, with the garden and home flowing into one another.
This aerial view shows how the pool, deck, and green spaces are integrated into the architectural plan of the Siri residence, creating a private oasis.
We designed the deck around this beautiful existing mango tree, creating a natural 'katte' or seating area by the pool. It’s a perfect example of building with nature, not against it.
This sun-soaked island deck by the pool is the perfect spot for a cup of coffee. The design uses a simple pergola to define the space without closing it off from the beautiful garden views.
The entrance to the Siri residence is a journey through a lush tropical garden. I designed a series of floating steps that follow the natural slope of the land, flanked by existing coconut trees.
Another view of the floating steps leading to the entrance, surrounded by dense foliage. The glass canopy provides shelter while maintaining an open, airy feel.
The approach to the Siri residence is designed to be an experience. A cantilevered, louvered box structure floats above a random rubble stone wall, with the path winding around existing palm trees.
About this collection
We prioritize integrating existing landscape features into our architectural plans rather than clearing them. In the Siri residence, for example, we designed the deck around an existing mango tree, creating a 'katte' seating area that feels like the house has always belonged there. This approach of building with nature, not against it, ensures your home captures the unique light and wind patterns of your specific plot.
For us, the boundary of a home should not end at the wall. We apply bioclimatic design principles to ensure your living spaces naturally extend into your garden, terrace, or courtyard. Whether you are dealing with a compact urban plot in Bengaluru or a large farmhouse, we look at how to bring fresh air, filtered light, and greenery inside.
Designing for Climate and Context
When we plan a layout, we consider the sun's path and the local wind direction first. Using features like brick jali screens allows for privacy while keeping the home ventilated. In our tropical projects, we often use floating steps and cantilevered structures to create a sense of lightness, allowing the house to sit gently on the land.
Materiality in Transition
Materials play a huge role in this transition. We use hand-troweled oxide flooring, rough stone, and terracotta to bridge the gap between indoor cleanliness and outdoor raw textures. A terrace garden or a 'jagali' (raised platform) serves as a thermal buffer, cooling the house naturally while providing an outdoor lounge area.
Practical Considerations
We often get asked about maintenance and privacy. By using custom louvered screens, corten steel panels, or careful landscape layering, we create private outdoor zones that you can enjoy without feeling exposed to the street. If you have a specific site, we would love to walk through how we can orient your home to maximize these outdoor connections.
