Yoga is an inner journey, regardless of your age. My classes for seniors prioritize safety and alignment, using props to help you move comfortably.

Strength knows no age. This video shows a 68-year-old student using a resistance band to build leg and core strength. This is a perfect example of my gentle yoga for the elderly, focusing on functional fitness and celebrating every movement.

Using a chair and a bolster, my students can safely practice this supported backbend. This modified asana is excellent for improving lung function and digestion, and it gently works on strengthening the lower back, a common area of concern for seniors.

This is a restorative pose using chairs that allows for a deep spinal stretch without putting pressure on the body. This is a key part of my safe yoga postures for seniors, ensuring that everyone can experience the benefits of yoga comfortably.

Here, I am guiding a student through a sequence of supported inversions and stretches using a chair and bolsters. These modified poses, like the supported Halasana (Plow Pose), improve circulation and flexibility safely.

We use chairs, bolsters, and straps for every session, which means you get the full benefits of a deep stretch without putting unnecessary strain on your joints or lower back. This is not about pushing your body to the limit, but about helping you maintain mobility and lung capacity at your own pace.

For me, yoga is 'Chitta Vritti Nirodha'—quieting the mind—but for the body, it must be 'Sthira Sukham Asanam' (stable and comfortable). When you reach your 60s, the goal is not to perform fancy poses you see on social media. The goal is to keep your joints moving, your breath flowing, and your spine healthy.

Why Props Matter

I rely heavily on props like chairs and bolsters because they provide stability. Whether you are dealing with arthritis, back pain, or general stiffness, these tools allow you to perform asanas safely. For example, a supported backbend using a chair opens the chest and improves lung function without collapsing the lower back.

My Approach to Senior Wellness

  • Breath Control: Pranayama sessions are dedicated to improving lung capacity and oxygen levels.
