Yoga shouldn't be hard on your joints. At my studios in Yamuna Vihar and West Jyoti Nagar, I use the chair as a support tool, making asanas safe and effective for everyone, whether you are a beginner or a senior.

Using a chair for support allows for a much deeper and safer backbend in Chakrasana (Wheel Pose). This method helps open the chest and shoulders without putting pressure on the wrists or lower back.

Here, we are using the chair and a yoga belt to work towards Hanumanasana (the splits). This supported variation allows for a gradual and safe opening of the hips and hamstrings.

This is an advanced variation of Shalabhasana (Locust Pose) using a chair. It provides incredible strengthening for the entire back while the chair supports the body weight, allowing for a deeper expression of the pose.

This video shows the variety in our chair yoga classes. We move through standing poses for balance, seated stretches for flexibility, and even use the chair for support in more dynamic movements.

Watch how we incorporate a flow sequence using the chair. From a supported plank to Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), the chair adds a unique challenge while ensuring proper form and stability.

A yoga belt and chair are excellent tools for opening the shoulders and chest. This supported backbend helps improve posture and release tension from sitting at a desk all day.

This student is using a chair and belt to work on a standing leg stretch. This is a fantastic way to improve hamstring flexibility while maintaining balance and stability.

Another example of a supported backbend, this time with the head on the mat. This variation of Chakrasana (Wheel Pose) is great for building confidence and strength for the full pose.

A student practices the advanced Purna Shalabhasana (Full Locust Pose) with the support of a chair. This prop helps in lifting the legs higher and achieving a deeper spinal extension safely.

Here you can see the focus and determination in practicing Purna Shalabhasana with a chair. This pose is excellent for building a strong and flexible back.

About Chair Yoga: Accessible & Supported Practice

Think of the chair not just as a prop, but as your partner for better form. We use it to ground your practice, allowing you to hold poses longer and align properly without stressing your knees or lower back. If you have been struggling with stiff shoulders from office work or simply find floor exercises daunting, this support system lets you focus on the stretch, not the struggle.

Why Chair Yoga Works

Many people think yoga requires extreme flexibility from day one. That isn't true at Yogratna. By using a chair, we remove the fear of falling or losing balance. It provides a stable base, which means you can safely explore backbends, twists, and forward folds. You will find that your muscles engage differently when you have that extra support, leading to better strength gains.

Who This Is For

This cluster is not just for our senior members, though it is excellent for gentle, age-appropriate movement. It is for anyone who needs to modify their practice.

  • Office Workers: If you spend hours at a desk, our chair-based shoulder and chest openers are life-savers for correcting posture.
  • Beginners: If you are new to the mat, the chair acts as a teacher, guiding you into the correct alignment for poses like Surya Namaskar or dynamic planks.
  • Recovery: If you are managing minor joint sensitivity or just returning to fitness after a break, this is the safest way to rebuild your stamina.

Our Studio Vibe

Hum sab ek saath practice karte hain. In my classes, there is no judgment. We move, we adjust, and we laugh. Whether we are in the studio in Yamuna Vihar or West Jyoti Nagar, the goal is always the same: keep a haste hue chehra (smiling face) and move at your own pace. I am always walking around to make sure you are using the props correctly, so you never feel lost.
