Boxing Technique & Drills: Building the Boxer
Forget raw power. Real boxing is about speed, reflexes, and accuracy. At Rox, we break down your stance and footwork to build you from the ground up.
A fast-paced pad work drill in our advanced class. The goal is to throw quick, accurate combinations, improving both speed and reaction time.
The coach and I working on pads. This is how we refine technique, focusing on every detail of a punch, from footwork to head movement.
A coach pad work session. This one-on-one attention is crucial for correcting mistakes and building a boxer's confidence in their punches.
An advanced boxer works on footwork and agility using a ladder drill while simultaneously practicing his punches. Boxing is about moving your feet as much as your hands.
An advanced member working the heavy bag. This is essential for developing power, endurance, and practicing combinations.
A group of members doing a dumbbell drill. This exercise builds shoulder strength and endurance, which is critical for keeping your hands up and punching hard through the later rounds.
A coach vest session where a member practices body shots. The vest allows for realistic targeting and helps the boxer learn to throw powerful punches to the body.
Infighting practice on the heavy bag. A coach holds the bag to simulate an opponent, teaching the boxer how to create space and land shots up close.
A defensive drill using a hoop on the floor. This forces the boxer to stay in range and use head movement and pivots, not just their feet, to evade punches.
Learning to throw head and body punches on the heavy bag. We teach our members how to vary their attacks to break down an opponent's defense.
About Technique & Drills: Building the Boxer
It isn't about how hard you hit; it’s about where those punches land. When you join us for technical drills, you won’t just be hitting bags mindlessly. We break down your stance, guard, and footwork until it becomes muscle memory. Whether we’re using agility ladders to speed up your feet or pad work to sharpen your reactions, we focus on the mechanics of the sport so you can build a solid foundation that stays with you.
Boxing is a game of millimeters. In our Bommanahalli gym, we don't care about ego or the flashy punches you see on television. We care about the boring, necessary work that happens in the gym. Every drill serves a purpose.
The Fundamentals First
If you haven't mastered your stance, you haven't mastered boxing. In our beginner sessions, we spend weeks ensuring your guard is high and your feet are under you. You will shadow box until your shoulders burn, not to look good, but to ensure that when you finally do throw a jab, it’s coming from the right place.
Why Drills Matter
People often ask why we spend so much time on pad work and ladder drills. It is because you cannot think in the ring. If you have to calculate your next move, you have already lost. We use pad work to force you into reacting instantly. We use heavy bags to teach you how to maintain distance and range. When you start, it might feel frustrating. That is good. That is the point.
Old School Conditioning
You will not find fancy air-conditioned machines here. We use what works. You will see Mudgars for shoulder stability, sledgehammers for core rotation, and tires for explosive power. Boxing is a full-body sport, and your cardio needs to be specific to the ring. We train for endurance because a boxer who tires in the third round is a boxer who gets hit.
We keep it real. If you are struggling with a combination, tell me. We will fix it together. As I always say, 'Zinda rakho' (keep it alive). You have to keep pushing, keep learning, and keep moving.
