Tight hamstrings or stiff hips? We use props, wall ropes, and careful adjustments to help you safely increase your flexibility and work towards your first full split.

With every exhale, we find a little more space. Here, I'm providing gentle assistance to help a student deepen their forward fold, using a strap to maintain spinal length and blocks to support the feet.

Proper alignment is key in forward bends to protect the spine. The use of a strap around the back and feet encourages the student to fold from the hips rather than rounding the upper back.

Each body is different, and our adjustments are tailored to the individual. This student is working on her forward bend with the support of blocks, allowing for a gradual and safe increase in hamstring flexibility.

In this supported lunge, we use blocks to elevate the hips, making the stretch more accessible. I am helping the student lift and lengthen through her torso to create space before folding forward.

Working towards the splits in a group setting can be incredibly motivating. Here, students use blocks and folded towels for support, allowing them to hold the pose and breathe into the stretch.

This student is using blocks under her hips for support in a split variation, which helps maintain alignment and prevents overstretching. It's a perfect example of practicing with awareness.

The rope wall is a fantastic tool for active flexibility. This student is using the ropes to support her extended leg, allowing her to work on hip mobility with a sense of fun and freedom.

A smile says it all. Using the wall ropes for support makes challenging leg stretches feel more playful and achievable, building both strength and confidence.

Another great example of using the rope wall to explore range of motion. This setup helps to open the hips and stretch the inner thighs in a supported standing leg raise.

This workshop montage shows the variety of techniques we use for forward bending, from rope-assisted stretches and partner work to focused breathing exercises that calm the nervous system.

About Deep Stretch: Forward Bends & Splits

Many of us get frustrated because we think flexibility is just about how far you can reach. It is actually about understanding your body's limits. In these sessions, we use wall ropes, chairs, and blocks to support your weight, which lets your hamstrings release tension naturally. Whether you are aiming for Paschimottanasana (seated forward fold) or want to open your hips for Hanumanasana (splits), we focus on alignment that protects your lower back.

Forward folds and splits are often misunderstood as just stretching exercises. In reality, they require specific engagement of the hip flexors and a calm nervous system. If you try to force these poses, your muscles simply tighten up to protect you—which is why I emphasize prop-based work.

At our Azad Nagar studio, we break down these complex asanas into manageable drills. We don't just stretch; we teach you how to breathe into the tightness. For many students, the breakthrough happens when they stop fighting the pose and start using the support of a block or a chair to find space in the spine.

  • Why use props? Props like bolsters and straps provide stability, allowing you to hold poses longer and increase range of motion safely.
  • Our approach: We focus on active flexibility, meaning you build the strength to control your range, not just passively hang in a pose.
  • Safety first: Our workshops are capped at 12–15 people. This ensures that I or my assistants can provide hands-on adjustments, which are crucial for preventing injury in deep hip openers or forward folds.

Whether you are a beginner struggling to touch your toes or a regular practitioner aiming to master the full split, our workshops provide the environment to work hard and progress steadily. Ab toh guru ji ne bhi boldia—'Yog karma zaruri hai'—so let's get on the mat and put in the work.
